Oregon Wine – New Winery – Jared Etzel

Jared EtzelJared Etzel is the new General Manager and winemaker for an as yet unnamed vineyard and winery on The North Willamette Valley’s Wine Industry’s “Gold Coast,” Worden Hill Road.

Jared is the eldest of Mike Etzel’s (Beaux Freres) three sons. His other wine projects include the Coattails and Horsetail wines, made with his brothers at Beaux Freres.

The project is funded by a group of Canadian investors. Robert Roy, who is also an investor in Beaux Freres, and Robert’s son are among the group.

The new vineyard is located across the street from Crumbled Rock Winery and the Juliard Vineyard, with Cameron and the Bergstroms to the east, and Winderlea, Le Pavillon,  and Maresh Vineyards to the west.

The property was a hazelnut orchard, and Jared is managing the removal of the trees and the excavation of the property, with planting scheduled for February 2013.

Jared says: “it’s an incredible piece of land, and a huge move up for me. A great challenge, and a welcome challenge.”

More later as the story unfolds.
