Corvidae Wine Company

Owen Roe does it again. Like their other value labels - Sharecroppers, O'Reilly's, Northwest Vine Project, Murphy's Law, - Corvidae packs a punch.

"Corvidae" is named for the family of birds that includes crows and ravens. Crows have a long history in folklore and mythology. David was inspired to name the label Corvidae by the many crows that circle the sky over his winery in Yakima.

Each Corvidae wine is named with a particular fairy tale, fable, or legend in mind. "Rook" references the legendary luck associated with crows. "Lenore" is named for Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven". "Fable" is inspired by the story of the fox and the crow and its moral- "Beware of Flatterers". "Mirth" refers to an old nursery rhyme about magpies. More wines in the series will be named for other references to crows in folklore.

"Rook" CSM

"Lucky at cards"

Corvidae's "Rook" blended red wine is a crowd-pleaser. It's a blend of Cabernet, Merlot, and Syrah from three distinctly different vineyards - Ironbird Vineyard, in Southern Oregon's Applegate Valley, Erickson Vineyard, in Washington's Yakima Valley, and St. Isidore Vineyard, in the high priced and trendy Walla Walla appellation.

Corvidae's Rook is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. The ripe and rich Cabernet flavors prevail - juicy loganberry, cassis, and a base note of black plum and cherry. Syrah adds richness, and Merlot smooths the velvet finish.

Lenore Syrah

"For the rare and radiant maiden
whom the angels name Lenore,
nameless here forevermore."

The Raven - Edgar Allen Poe

Corvidae's "Lenore" Syrah has great spice, bright fruit, deep purple hues, and gorgeous texture and is really a steal for the quality it delivers. Pair this crowd pleasing wine with barbecued baby back ribs, a hearty lamb stew, your favorite burger or just on it's own.

Lenore Syrah is made from 95% Syrah and 5% Grenache. The fruit comes from Erickson Vineyard, in the Columbia Valley, and Six Prong Vineyard, in the Horse Heaven Hills.

Keeper Cabernet Franc

"Do not look upon me [with scorn],
because I am dark, because the sun
has tanned me. My mother's sons
were angry with me; they made me
the keeper of the vineyards,
but my own vineyard I have not kept." (Solomon 1:6)

Corvidae's "Keeper" Cabernet Franc is plush and velvety, full-bodied and easy drinking. The scent and flavors knock you out - spice joins black tea, fresh tobacco, thyme, sweet cedar chips, black berries and cassis. When Cabernet Franc is made from well ripened fruit, (as this wine is) it combines plush fruit and interesting accent notes with body that stands well with rich roasted and grilled meats.

Fable Petit Sirah

"Beware of Flatterers"

Corvidae's "Fable" Petit Syrah is a wild wine, big and black, made from a grape that's quite rare in the Pacific Northwest. .

Corvidae's "Fable" is named for the Aesop fable called "The Fox and the Crow". In the story, a fox comes upon a crow sitting in a tree with a piece of cheese in its beak. The fox compliments the crow, asking the crow to let it hear its beautiful voice. Flattered by the fox, the crow opens its mouth to sing, the cheese falls to the ground, and the fox runs away. The moral of the tale: "Beware of Flatterers".
