The best value Washington Syrah.

-

Ex Umbris Syrah 08 has rad aromas of smoke, flint, meat and heaps of black fruit. A nice vein of red berry weaves through the black fruit heart, with accents of lavender, hoisin, and cocoa on the finish. - Marcus

-

Fantastic reviews often lead to price increases. Not so with Owen Roe. Ex Umbris' price has stayed the same through raves, like when the 2005 was #69 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 in 2007, and last year's WS 92 for the 2007 vintage.

Super-limited: only 160 cases made. Intense and mouth-filling. Peppered bacon, black fruits, crushed violets, vanilla bean and five spice stain your tongue while they caress it. Even with its viscous, fleshy nature, the Chapel Block retains freshness and finishes with integrated tannins. - Marcus

-

2008 marks the first release of the Chapel Block Syrah, which is from Red Willow Vineyard in Yakima (source of the incredible, sold-out 1973 Block Cabernet).

The first thing I wrote was "better and cheaper?" and I ought to stick with it. That's right - Washington's best value Cab just got...bester. The 2008 Sharecropper's Cab is full of purple fruit goodness complemented by the exuberant tannins. And the price? Under $15. - Marcus

Owen Roe's flagship wine. It exhibits an expressive, rich nose of clove, licorice, cedar incense, vanilla, and sweet black fruit. Mouth-coating, velvety, and plush, huge, sweet blackberry, black cherry, and plum flavors are elevated by layers of sweet tobacco, dried fruit, pencil lead, and cassis liqueur. Ripe, integrated tannins are structured for 5+ years of cellaring. - Jean

-

Washington State's Dubrul Vineyard, rehabilitated and made famous by David O'Reilly of Owen Roe, is the source for this distinguished wine. OwenRoe's Dubrul Vineyard wines are the winery's most precious, powerful, intense, and age well into the next decade. The Owen Roe Dubrul Cab has earned a spot on the Northwest's mantel for best Cabernets.

No one is better at finding and nurturing Washington vineyards than David O'Reilly. His guidance revitalized the Dubrul Vineyard, creating some of Washington's top rated Cabs. His discovery of small blocks of old vine Syrah and Cab at Red Willow Vineyard produced several extraordinary new Owen Roe wines, including the Chapel Block Syrah 08.

UPDATE from last year's announcement of these wines: David O'Reilly's 2008 single vineyard Pinot are tasting even better than we first announced their release a couple months back. These are full-bodied, layered, Pinots in the Owen Roe style.

-

Owen Roe Pinot noir Lenne Vineyard 08 $49.95/$44.95

Seductively ripe dark berries mesh with morel mushroom and lively spiciness. Owen Roe's first Lenne Vineyard designate Pinot noir - only 100 cases made.

-

Owen Roe Pinot noir Kalita Vineyard 08 $49.95/$44.95

Sweet red cherry and raspberry flavors are rounded and softened by a creamy texture. A hint of perfume lingers, drawing you back into the wine.

-

Owen Roe Pinot noir Merriman Vineyard 08 $49.95/$44.95

The biggest of Owen Roe's three new single vineyard 2008 Pinot noirs. An intense nose of toast introduces a velvet textured wine of blackberry and cherry fruit flavors. Accents of cocoa, toast, and smoke provide a long finish. A wine for cellaring 4-6 years.

Kilmore Pinot noir 08
$41.95/$37.76 by the case

-

THE Owen Roe Pinot noir meets the storied 2008 vintage, falls in love, and makes beautifully balanced and drinkable Pinot. Lush and silky black cherries and berries weave with violets, roasted coffee and dried herbs. There's no stopping the fruit on the 08 Kilmore - it keeps percolating juiciness. Highly recommended.
