This is a MONSTER of a wine. Blackberries, roasted coffee, brine, dried herbs, and violets grab your attention. Rasa's signature savory element makes your mouth water for the burst of black fruit - currants, plums, cherries. It has a touch of grip on the finish, adding a backbone and complementing the lush fruit. You could cellar it, but why wait for a wine this good?

A blend of Syrah (61%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (39%), the 2009 fruit is from Kiona Vineyards, one of the oldest vineyards in Red Mountain and a source of superb grapes

Flavors of dark berries plus dark chocolate and earth impress upon the palate. You will also find notes of espresso, creme brulee and leather. The tannins are silky and the finish is intense and lingers awhile. Black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, mint, truffle, dark chocolate, and earth notes dominate the palate. In the background there are notes of leather, espresso and crème brûlée. The substantial yet silky tannins exhibit a finesse that is rarely encountered in wines in their youth from Red Mountain. Aged in 67% neutral French oak and 33% new French oak. The blend is 67% Syrah and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon.

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

At the recent Walla Walla Wine Tasting in downtown Portland, Rasa was THE buzz. Everyone I talked to was saying that Billo and Pinto Naravane's tiny annual production is going go the way of those mailing list/impossible to get wineries. They blew us away.

Rasa Vineyard's "value" wines are offered under the name "PB" (for Pinto and Billo.) Pinto and Billo's Rasa wines are made with a very specific finished product in mind - and the PB wines contain the juice that didn't fit in the Rasa blend. It certainly isn't lesser juice, this is beautiful wine, just different from the Rasa wines in style, and very reasonably priced.

A blend of mostly Syrah (67%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (33%), the 2008 fruit is from Kiona Vineyards, one of the oldest vineyards in Red Mountain, smack in the middle of the valley. Kiona Vineyards' profile is not as high as say, Ciel or Champoux, but the grapes can be superb.
