Review: Their most sought after wine, it is an intense, exotic, muscular Pinot noir. Heady aromas of rose petal incense and smoke prepare you for big black raspberry and cherry liquor, finishing powerfully while picking up notes of black currant, black cherry, and smoke. A very structured wine, made for aging, or decant and wait several hours before drinking. Patty's longest-lived wine, an excellent choice for your cellar. - Jean Patty and Jim's most popular wine, we are fortunate to offer it to you. Less than 200 cases produced. An old standard and a spot-on bottling of what is certainly our most popular bottling over the years. The 2011 vintage marks the 15th consecutive year we have worked with and farmed this vineyard. It is long term relationships like this, especially with older vineyard sites, that make for Pinot Noirs that serious Pinot Noir drinkers come to expect. - the winery The 2011 is taut with crunchy, deep red fruit and shows a fairly demonstrative display of structure. This is a powerful, muscular wine. 2010 Vintage Tasting Notes 2010 Tanzer - 93 points - Vivid ruby-red. Highly perfumed bouquet evokes candied red fruits, rose and Asian spices, plus a smoky topnote. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering intense raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that gain depth with air. Shows impressive power on the chewy finish, which features notes of cola and dark cherry. - J.R. This site is now taking on new levels of seriousness as it starts to enter into maturity. The vines are now 20 years of age and the depth, power and balance of this particular bottling become further honed each vintage. Balcombe Vineyard is located at an ideal elevation and has great aspect and exposure on the southwest side of the Breyman Orchard Rd. hill. The 2010 vintage marks the 14th consecutive year we have worked with and farmed this vineyard. It is long term relationships like this, especially with older vineyard sites, that make for Pinot Noirs that serious Pinot Noir drinkers come to expect. This block is our touchstone of Pinot Noir in the cellar on a year in and year out basis. 2010 is no exception. The wine brings the power of this section to the table with incredible, laser-like focus. This is an intense wine in every sense of the word. This will definitely need some time in cellars to bring all its ample elements into harmony. 2009 was a windfall of fruit from this section of the vineyard allowing us to produce over 200 cases of this wine and send it to far flung places that never had even heard of this bottling before. 2010 is the opposite. - the winery |
