Pinot Noir Balcombe Vyd Block 1B 2010
Review:
This site is now taking on new levels of seriousness as it starts to enter into maturity. The vines are now 20 years of age and the depth, power and balance of this particular bottling become further honed each vintage. Balcombe Vineyard is located at an ideal elevation and has great aspect and exposure on the southwest side of the Breyman Orchard Rd. hill. The 2010 vintage marks the 14th consecutive year we have worked with and farmed this vineyard. It is long term relationships like this, especially with older vineyard sites, that make for Pinot Noirs that serious Pinot Noir drinkers come to expect.
This block is our touchstone of Pinot Noir in the cellar on a year in and year out basis. 2010 is no exception. The wine brings the power of this section to the table with incredible, laser-like focus. This is an intense wine in every sense of the word. This will definitely need some time in cellars to bring all its ample elements into harmony. 2009 was a windfall of fruit from this section of the vineyard allowing us to produce over 200 cases of this wine and send it to far flung places that never had even heard of this bottling before. 2010 is the opposite. - the winery
