Review:

Wow. This stunning Barbera Superiore is one of northern Italy's best values. Armujan comes from 60 year old vines in the prime Barolo village of Monforte d'Alba. It's rich and dense, flowing with ripe black fruit, exotic floral notes and spice, a hint of tar and dark chocolate. Armujan spends 18 months in French oak barrels, which adds a velvety texture and enhances the dark chocolate tones. This has significant aging potential (not that you'll be able to keep your hands off it) - at the winery in Sept. 2010, we cracked a bottle of 05 Armujan and drank it over 3 days - still fresh and vibrant.

Ruggeri Corsini is the husband and wife team of Nicola Argamante (vineyard manager) and Loredana Addari (winemaker). Nicola is a prominent viticulturalist who has consulted for some of the biggest names in Italian wine. Together they produce a spectacular portfolio of wine.

Previous vintage tasting notes: Podere Ruggeri Corsini Barbera d'Alba Superiore "Armujan" 06 - "This Barbera d’Alba is a deep, ruby red with violet hues in color. It opens slowly on the nose, releasing intense aromas of black currant and ripe plum followed by nuances of raisins, spice, and chocolate. A rich, ample and warm textured wine fills the palate with wonderful sensations of fruit, and with a long lasting finish only a true connoisseur can appreciate. This wine is a perfect match for Pasta all’amatriciana, Agnello alla Romana, Costoletta alla Milanese, or with formaggi." - Panebianco

Barbera Armujan wines are usually ruby-red in color. His nose is fresh, with soft scents of ripe plum, sensations that are carried through onto the palate. Lighter styles make a fine accompaniment to pasta and rice dishes. In Piedmont it is the wine par excellence for accompanying Bagna Cŕuda. Armujan, like Barolo, goes well with intensely flavored dishes based on mature and spicy cheeses. - the winery
