Longshadows Poet's Leap Riesling 03: Wine Advocate (Parker) 89 points!: "Allen Shoup, one of the founding fathers of the Washington State wine industry, has created a new consortium called Long Shadows. This group of "distinguished wineries and vineyards" is an effort to bring some of the wine world's most famous names to Washington State. For example, Poet's Leap, the first of the Long Shadows wineries to release a wine, will provide consumers with the opportunity to taste Washington Rieslings fashioned by Germany's renowned winemakers Armin Diel (of Schlossgut Diel). . . Pears, flowers, candied apples and underlying minerals can be found in its highly expressive aromatics. Produced from vines (averaging 20 years of age). . . it offers an off-dry, medium-bodied character packed with linden, verbena, honeysuckle and hints of white pepper. Lush, suave and creamy-textured, it is an excellent, fruit-forward offering."

Winemaker's notes: "Our 2003 Riesling was produced from the vineyards of the Columbia Valley (29%), the Walhuke Slope (22%) and the Yakima Valley (49%). Those terroir along with the average age of 20 years old vines brought to the blend an extreme profundity and complexity."

"This 100% Riesling has classic pear and grapefruit flavors which lead to a crisp and seductive mouth feel. The natural acidity well balances the delicate sweetness with an enormous charm. All ends with a dazzling clean and tangy finish which last for a long time."

Inspired by the greatest wines of Germany and crafted by Armin Diel, proprietor of the renowned Schlossgut Diel - Poet's Leap shows every promises to become a perfectly statuesque renaissance wine. Washington Rieslings are acclaimed internationally because of nearly perfect growing conditions. Warm climate vineyards such as Weinbau and Dionysus produce ripe pears, peaches and apricot aromas with a rich texture. The cooler climates sites bring harmony, honey and floral aromas to the blend. Poet's Leap will reflect the optimum, joyous balance of sweetness, fruitiness, acidity and alcohol, a portraiture of Washington's finest Riesling.
