Review:
Sourced from the Stoller and Holstein Vineyards in the Dundee Hills, this pinot has flavors of cherry candy, eucalyptus, vanilla, orange peel and coffee.
This blend has the character and the elegance of Bordeaux varieties of the Languedoc region in southern France. The structure integrates, not letting the fruit over power its terrior. The fruit power lingers as this wine evolves in the mouth, with the fruit soon showing its power and melding elegantly with its structured back bone. This blend is focused and soft with Dundee Hills Pinot lingering on just as you think the palette is finished. Their is the Pinot introduction and finish, the Syrah mid fruit palette and the Merlot body. - the winery

2007 Vintage Tasting Notes
This is a rollicking, fun red wine full of juicy and approachable flavors and scents from young newcomer Cody Wright. It is an unconventional blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Pinot noir, and 5% Cabernet Franc.
Aged 11 months in French oak. (10% new Ermitage, 40% 1-year Cadus, 50% neutral). Unfined & lightly filtered prior to bottling, Oct
1, 2008.
“The key to any great blend is harmony. I strive for flavors that unravel in layers rather than a jumble of flavors that compete for your
attention. The three grape varieties in this blend mesh seamlessly to create a wine of unique personality and depth. I have a hard time
describing this wine as either light, medium, or full bodied, because it has a tendency to be all three at once. There is focus and elegance
on
the front palate, a weighty earth-driven middle, and then firm tannins help to propel a long and lengthy finish. Notes of black cherry,
plums,
chocolate and earth are all complimented with food-friendly acidity.” Cody Wright, winemaker and owner
“Cody Wright named this blend for the telltale hands of a
hard-worked harvest season. A gorgeous garnet color, its ripe blueberry notes are accented by lavender, rosemary, bell pepper and licorice. Its chocolatey-smooth body is light enough to take a judicious back seat to lamb, while adding juicy and spicy interest. Made from Merlot,
Pinot
Noir and Cabernet Franc, sourced from Southern Oregon and the Willamette Valley.” - Katherine Cole (Wine Columnist for the Oregonian FOODday) – “Critics Picks – Four wine pros weigh in on fine wine
pairings” - Oregonian (Tues May 19, 2009 Memorial Day issue)
Purple Hands is about
connecting with the grape and its environment.
It's about handcrafted wine, handpicked
grapes,
hand work as the wine is made,
and a hands-on
relationship to the vineyard, the vine, and
the wine. The partners tell of their deep
awareness of the environment in which the grapes
are grown, and of the way their relationship
to the wine grows in the process of picking
and sorting the grapes, of handling, pressing,
and working with the pressed grapes and juice
during fermentation, and in choosing the blend
and completing the process with bottling and
labels.
