A completely different take on the Dubrul Vineyard's usual style. Massive but very complex, there's so much to experience. Delicate violet floral on the nose, an array of fruits and spices in the middle of the taste, and a remarkably expressive and balanced finish that lasts till eternity, it seems. 2008 Wine Spectator - 95 points - Lithe, supple and full of personality, with floral, green tea and soy sauce overtones adding zip and depth to the disarmingly lovely plum and currant fruit. The finish lingers easily against well-buffed tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2013 through 2020. - H.S.

2008 Wine Advocate - 94 points - The 2008 Creative Impulse, a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon and 31% Merlot from the DuBrul Vineyard, was reviewed one year ago as a barrel sample. It was naturally fermented and aged in 60% new oak. Deep purple in color, it displays an expressive, already complex bouquet of sandalwood, truffle, earthy minerals, incense, violets, black currant, and blackberry. In the glass it reveals a silky texture, ample fine-grained tannins, impeccable balance, and a lengthy, pure finish. Give it 5-7 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2016 to 2028, if not longer. - Jay Miller
