2009 Tanzer - 93 points - Good bright ruby-red. Raspberry, Damson plum, minerals, licorice and brown spices on the vibrant nose. Gentle, sweet and sexy, at once seamless and nicely delineated, with lovely juicy mineral lift to the raspberry, plum and spice flavors. Finishes firm and gripping, with captivating floral perfume and substantial but thoroughly ripe tannins for a wine from Red Mountain. This new wine from Billo and Pinto Naravane is a beauty.

Rasa's first 100% Cabernet is a knock-out. Powerful and rich scents of black cherry, cassis, cedar, and a classic Red Mountain graphite and mineral thread that weaves through the wine. The burst of cassis plays nicely with notes of leather, licorice, and clove, all on a rich and silky body. - Marcus

Dark ruby red, it has aromas of cassis, blackberry, cigar box, black cherry, mint and dried rose petals. The flavors include cassis, black licorice, and roasted coffee beans. The mouthfeel is lush with silky tannins and layers of complexity. Notes of dried cherry, leather and scorched earth are detected in the long finish. This wine will cellar for 15 - 20 years.

The name, Plus One, comes from a very sweet game of one-upmanship played between father and daughter in expressing their love for one another. "I love you." "I love you plus one." "I love you 1,000." "I love you 1,000 plus one."

The Plus One is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the Red Mountain's Kiona Vineyard.

Respected blogger Rand Sealey says: Deep ruby colored, this exhibits a classic Cabernet nose of blackberry, cherry, cassis, matchstick, sandalwood, dried roses and rubbed sage. Tightly structured, yet with a finely woven tapestry of red and dark fruits, intermixed with licorice, dark chocolate, Red Mountain scorched earth and minerals.

The back picks up notes of roasted berries and chestnuts, with touches of mocha, cinnamon bark and orange peel, followed by a fleshy, silky, lightly spiced (nutmeg, clove) and deftly oaked ripe tannin finish. 19.5/20pts.”

Jeb Dunnuck, Rhone Report, loved this wine and wrote about it this month, giving it a high 95 point rating: Showing superb Cabernet character, as well as the minerality and tannin structure of Red Mountain, the 2009 Rasa Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Plus One Kiona Vineyard is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and was aged half in new French oak, and half in neutral barrel.

It exhibits classic Cabernet aromas of black currant and creamy blackberry styled fruit that’s intermixed with notions of freshly crushed stone, roasted meats, sweet oak, and spice box on the nose. This flows to a full-bodied, gorgeously proportioned wine that has fantastic concentration, a layered, seamless texture, and building tannin that emerges with time in the glass.

There’s plenty of structure here; give bottles 3-4 years in the cellar, and then plan on drinking over the following 15+ years.
