Review:

So dense, so different. I love bringing this bottle out at a dinner party. People are blown away by its sheer intensity then realize it's a complex, enthralling wine as well.

A potent black cherry perfume is tinged with Herbes de Provence, smoke, pepper, sandalwood, and bacon fat tinged oak. As the wine opens, the complexity of the 2011 is exposed: smoky tart black cherry, roasted meat, fresh-turned earth, pepper, lavender, thyme, and minerals.

Less sweet fruit, more savory, more nuanced than last year's Vox, the balanced tannins and acidity make this a wine to cellar or enjoy with hearty foods, but not limited to steak or game. The 2011 Vox could pair with rack of lamb and complement the dish rather than overwhelm. This is Vox Populi: the elegant edition. - Jean

Their most "cult" red, an inky monster. The 2011 Vox Populi Mourvedre was sourced 100% from Monette's Vineyard.

Densely purple in color, the wine reveals aromas of white pepper, bacon fat, lavender, incense and grilled meats. The palate displays notes of black cherry, bacon fat, grilled meat, espresso, dark chocolate, white pepper imbued with earthiness and minerality. Richly complex, balanced tannins and acidity, this wine will evolve for 6 to 8 years and will be good for another ten years after that. - the winery

Vox is a creation of popular demand. It was intended to be part of the blend in Rasa’s QED red. Vox Populi translates as “voice of the people,” and the many customers who loved and requested it resulted in Billo bottling it as a separate wine. 95 cases made.

2010 Vintage Tasting Notes

This rare 100% Mourvedre shows a rich, voluptuous raspberry core, accented by cracked pepper and raw steak notes. The texture and balance are marvelous - this is the sophisticated side of Rasa, and of Washington reds. - Marcus

The Vox is a creation of popular demand. It was intended to be part of the blend in Rasa’s QED red. But the Vox Populi “voice of the people” (the many customers who loved it and requested it) resulted in Billo bottling it as a separate wine.

The 2010 Vox Populi Mourvedre is 75% Monette’s Vineyard (Walla Walla AVA) and 25% Alder Ridge Vineyard (Horse Heaven Hills AVA.)

You have a favorite wine memory? A wine with that indefinable little something extra that made it unforgettable? I have a few, and one of them is the Rasa VOX. It's a Mourvedre, but unlike any I've had from the northwest before. Smoke and mystery - meaty and sophisticated - big and intricate. It's a study in opposites and is just completely different. In a region of lots and lots of very similar wines, Billo's are something different. In the best way. - Jean

Aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, earth, truffle, grilled meats and a hint of flowers. This wine has beautiful structure, complexity, and length.

The Vox has a rich vibrant mouthfeel with crisp acidity that lingers beautifully into the finish. The bouquet has wild game, white pepper, black cherry, vanilla, and nutmeg, with slight hints of mixed flowers. The silky tannins intermingle nicely with smoked meat, truffle, earth, mineral, and white pepper on the palate. The long, silky finish resonates with notes of white pepper. This wine will hit maturity in 6-8 years and will hold for another 10 years after that. If consuming young please decant for a couple hours. This wine will pair beautifully with venison or lamb. - Billo

The 2010 Vox Populi Mourvedre is 75% Monette’s Vineyard (Walla Walla AVA) and 25% Alder Ridge Vineyard (Horse Heaven Hills AVA.)
