Red Splendor Columbia Valley 06
winery: Red Splendor
The 2006 Red Splendor is a brilliant, bombastic melange of varieties from Sangiovese, to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and others. But the real focus of the wine is the Columbia Valley soil, which gives both minerality and muscular backbone to this fruit-driven, full-bodied red.
Red Splendor is made by David O'Reilly (Owen Roe) for the Northwest Vine Project and his famed attention to quality was clearly applied here. While simple and a bit rough, Red Splendor is a steal of a picnic wine. I
This wine is part of the NW Vine Project, a group of inexpensive wines made for an Oregon wine distributor. Made by David O'Reilly (Owen Roe, O'Reilly's) and Andrew Rich (Andrew Rich Wines), these are super values and not readily available outside Oregon.
