Redman Wines Willamette Valley Pinot noir 08

Aged in oak for 15 months, this Pinot noir has soft tannins and beautiful fruit flavors.

2006 Vintage Tasting Notes

Redman's 2006 Pinot noir features red fruit in both scent and flavor, which is typical of the 2006 vintage. Aromas of red currant and red raspberry dominate, with hints of fresh turned earth and fresh herbs in the mix. Silky flavors of bing cherry, red currant, and tart pie cherry, transition effortlessly to the fresh rosemary, pie spice, and black plum-accented finish. The Redman wines are made by Michael Beckley, one of our favorite winemakers, who also makes wines under his own Quercus label (Harmonia, Camus, etc.)

"Garnet color. Nose builds in aeration. Redman Wines 2006 Willamette Valley blend begins with a warm complex nose: autumnal notes, mineral, black cherry, warm spices (Graham Cracker). Supple on the palate: refined tannins. Complexity of nose follows on through the palate with rich m?lange of flavors, including blackberry and deep rich forest floor. Ending with a long spicy finish. " -- the winery

The Redman Pinot noir 06 is a blend of fruit sourced from Momtazi and Bayless Vineyards in Oregon's North Willamette Valley. Cathy and Bill Redman's Estate vineyard was planted in 2005, 2006, and 2007 with first fruit harvested expected in 2008.

For the next few years, Redman Pinot noirs will be made with a mix of purchased and Estate fruit. Located along Ribbon Ridge at about 450 ft of elevation, the vineyard faces south.

The Redman Vineyard is planted in four blocks. The northern Zachary Block, west facing Alexander Block, Connor Block, south facing Caitlyn Block. The soils are all sedimentary and are considered compatible with Pinot noir and related varietals. The Redman Vineyard is classified as containing Willakenzie soils. Willakenzie soil has seven distinct sub-varieties: Bellpin, Dupee, Goodin, Panther, Rickreall, Sitton and Wellsdale. The site contains them all.

The Redman Vineyard, formerly a hazelnut orchard, was planted to Dijon and Pommard clone Pinot noir in 2005, with some Chardonnay, Arneis, and Pinot blanc acreage added in 2006. A total of 30 acres are available for planting on the site.

"Young and vibrant with an aroma I can't quite put my nose on but a little time might help it blossom. Good balance with no dominating aspect. Attractive spice with cherry tones. Earthy aromatics developed after a bit of time in the glass with pretty fruit and depth. A wine of finesse with a delicate and exceptional finish." David Johnstone, David's Muse Wineblog
