Roots 49 Rows Pinot noir 09
2008 Wine Advocate - 92 points - The 2009 Pinot Noir 49 Rows Vineyard is a succulent, seamless, pleasure-bent offering that can be approached now but will drink well for another 5-7 years.
Roots Wines & Vineyard owns 20 acres in the Ribbon Ridge AVA close to the famous Shea vineyard. Owner/winemaker Chris Berg made his first commercial vintage in 2002. The winery’s 2009s, surprisingly, are better than their offerings from the vaunted 2008 vintage, a case where winemaking style seems to have intersected almost perfectly with what the conditions of the vintage permitted, delicacy and elegance, more than power. - Jay Miller
2008 Vintage Tasting Notes
Ripe, end of summer black cherries combine with a tinge of fresh thyme and a bit of spicy cinnamon on both the nose and palate. Made from a small vineyard just outside of Wilsonville on Laurelwood soils, there is a nice minerality deep on the finish of this pinot. Only 63 cases produced.
