Scarborough MGS "Midnight" 09

Review:

MGS - M is for Mourvedre (40%), G is for Grenache (40%) and S is for Syrah (20%).

Both M & G are from Meek Vineyard, which is on the base of Red Mountain, though it’s technically in Yakima Valley. From the vineyard you can see the “mountain” or what I call a hill. The fruit takes about a month longer to ripen, which means more development. Slightly sloped, it’s rocky and dirty (in a good way). The Syrah comes from Lewis Vineyard in Prosser. The combination is fantastic, as this year I truly think it’s the closest to a Chateauneuf-du-Pape styled wine. Great acid as usual, with a little earth/dirt mixed with some great red currants and ready to age or enjoy now. Aged in new 550 liter Hungarian (Francois Feres) puncheons for 20 months, it complemented the wine and you wouldn’t think any oak was used. - the winery
