Shea Pinot noir Shea Vineyard Block 23 2009The most famous Shea Pinot, a juicy rich big cherry giant with dark notes of tobacco, blackberry, bittersweet chocolate and cedar. 100% Pommard fruit from the most famous block of vines in the Shea Vineyard called "Block 23." This is an enormous, crowd pleaser of a Pinot. There's sweet, juicy gushing cherry fruit. The huge fruit flavors are accented by tobacco, cedar, violets, dark baking chocolate and dried herbs. It's powerful, complex and appealing. The Block 23 is a perfect choice for lovers of king-sized Oregon Pinot noirs. Cellar 2-6 years, 15.2% alcohol 296 cases made. - Jean 2008 Pommard Pinot noir Tasting Notes The last vintage of a specific clone of Pinot noir (Pommard.) Deeply pitched aromas of cherry compote, baking spice, and caramel lead to powerful palate of juicy black berry, plum, cherry and toasty oak. The 07 Pommard is a ripe-style Pinot with lots of complexity - dried oregano, cinnamon stick and black tea nuances carry through on the finish with fine tannins. "Medium-bodied with black cherries, plums, mocha, dried flowers, spiced wood and hints of morels, I would be happy to drink this wine now or put it away for a decade." SF Examiner 7-31-09 This wine shows the lovely red fruit and firm structure that typify this clone. Wonderful aromatics and ripe red plum and pomegranate flavors on the palate are followed by a long and structured finish. 275 cases made. - the winery Previous Vintage Tasting Notes 2006 Vintage Tasting Notes Shea Vineyard Pommard Pinot noir 06 - Scents of red fruit, red cherry, red raspberry, and a hint of sweet pie spice show in the nose. Flavors are of gushing super appealing sweet red berry, red pie cherry, bing cherry, all balanced by a refreshing, uplifting acidity that balances the intense sweetness. The tannins are well integrated and an appealing note of white pepper and pie spice continue in the flavors as well as in the nose. The finish is medium long, with red cherry flavors joined by black cherry, blackberry, pie spice, and a firm tannic backbone structuring the wine and offsetting the juicy sweetness. The Pommard is the most immediately appealing of the 2006 Shea Pinots, opening quickly in the glass and providing clean, sweet red cherry fruit flavors that please even the casual sipper. Ready to drink now, or cellar through 2012. |
