Shea Vineyard 2007 Pinot noirs

NEW RELEASES: Shea Wine Cellars Pommard, East Hill Pinot noirs
Penner Ash, St. Innocent, Panther Creek, Raptor Ridge

Avalon Wine

Serious wine collectors, particularly those who follow American Pinot noir, are seeking out the wines of one of America's top vineyards. Shea Vineyard has been called the "Grand Cru" of Oregon (the highest level of quality in Burgundy) and regularly receives international recognition for the high quality of its fruit.

Shea Vineyard wines have become a sort of "no-brainer" for those following Oregon Pinots. If there's one bottling from a winery that you can count on, it's often the Shea.

Avalon WineA distinctive blend of select barrels from the East Hill of Shea Vineyard. It shows an amazingly complex aromatic profile, ranging from sandalwood and cedar to cardamom and clove. Shea Estate Vineyard Pinot noir 07
$47.95/$43.16

The Shea Wine Cellars Shea Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir 2007 has awesome, effusive aromas of deeply spiced dark raspberries, roses, doug fir forest and hints of violets. A supple initial burst of fruit turns juicy, concealing the fine tannins that linger on the finish with sweet earth. The flavors are still developing, with yummy raspberries and black cherries. An especially sophisticated Shea Estate bottling that will age with ease over the next several years. Highly recommended.

Shea Vineyard Pinot noir 07
$54.95/$49.45

Sold out at the winery.
Focused black cherry, raspberry, mineral and spice flavors on the nose. Expansive red and black fruits along with fine-grained tannins compliment a broad, textured palate. Vanilla and Asian spice lingers on the finish. 315 cases made. - the winery

Avalon WineRaptor Ridge
Shea Vineyard Pinot noir 07
$44.95/$40.46

The color of this wine is remarkable: dark garnet with a gem-like clarity. The Shea 2007 boasts aromas of juicy pomegranate and beeswax, with a bit of the classic "forest floor" mossy sandalwood perfume that has been common with Shea across the vintages. This young wine is amazingly ready to drink upon release, reminding us of a bowl of fresh Oregon blackberries and cream. More time in the bottle would only allow the ripe, polished tannins, framboise core, and black pepper finish to soften and lengthen. - the winery

Panther Creek
Shea Vineyard Pinot noir 06
$44.95/$40.46

Ripe and full-bodied, this wine exudes both comfort and sophistication. Indul- gent yet refined, the wine opens up with a bouquet filled with aromas of plum, blackberry, anise, leather and vanilla. Following are rich, spiced flavors, such as blackberry, black cherry, cocoa, orange peel, black pepper, currant, and earth. As always, the Shea drinks beautifully in its youth, but merits time to mature in the bottle. the winery

Shea Vineyard's terroir produces a floral, very forward Pinot, offering early accessibility for a single vineyard wine, yet with significant aging capability. The grapes are typically thinned at veraison to nearly half the normal yield, in order to produce the most concentrated flavors in the fruit. The soil type is Willakenzie, and the Pinot Noir clones are 114, 667, 777, Pommard and Wadenswil.
