Wine Advocate 97-100 Points: The 2009 Block 1 is thicker, richer, more velvety, and more pleasure-bent than the 2008. It is a candidate for perfection once it goes into bottle. The intense Scott Greer is one of Washington’s rising stars. His wines are all sourced from estate vineyards which are just now starting to come into maturity. He keeps yields low and the farming and winemaking are impeccable. Greer notes that he harvests totally on taste...There is really no mystery as to what Scott Greer is doing at Sheridan; total attention to detail, a great vineyard, impeccable farming, and non-interventionist winemaking.

below, Sheridan's Estate Vineyard

From the winery: The 2009 Block 1 is an estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon from Sheridan's famed Block 1. It has a deep, sexy purple center that extends out to the rim. The nose is pure crème de cassis, which tells you this is Cabernet at its best. It also has hints of dark chocolate, pain grille, and layers of asian spice. On the palate, it is deep and rich with beautiful texture that displays full-bodied ripe tannins and amazing complexity. It is rich, layered, and opulent. This wine will age beautifully for 20+ years. - Winemaker Scott Greer

2008 Vintage

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 98 points: The 2008 Block 1 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new French oak for 30 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it reluctantly gives up a brooding bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, creme de cassis, black currants, floral notes, and earthy minerals. Dense, layered, and long, it will evolve gracefully for 6-8 years and will see in its 20th birthday in fine form.

Winemaker Scott Greer has outdone himself with this huge, complex big red, made from his Sheridan Vineyard fruit.

Winemakers like Andrew Will's Chris Camarda prize the fruit from this Yakima Valley vineyard. Chris was so impressed that he bought land next to the Sheridan Vineyard for his Andrew Will Estate vineyard.
