97 points Wine Advocate: One of the wines of the vintage, the 2013 Block 1 (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is a sensational effort that offers a Lafite-like elegance and purity as well as textbook Cabernet notes of lead pencil shavings, cassis, graphite, cedar and forest floor. Full-bodied, seamless, silky and weightless on the palate, it's less exuberant and decadent than past vintages, yet excels for its seamless texture, impeccable balance and incredible overall harmony. Give bottles 6-7 years of cellaring and enjoy through 2043."

2012 vintage notes

Wine Advocate 95 points: "The most muscular and masculine in the lineup, the 2012 Block 1 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 28 months in new French oak. It's a serious, structured and backward effort that has lots of spicy oak, coffee bean, graphite and licorice-laced blackcurrants on the nose. These flow to a full-bodied, dense, concentrated and chewy Cabernet that will need 2-4 years of cellaring and have 15-20 years or more of longevity.

Previous vintage notes: "A wine that was just bottled, the 2011 Block 1 is easily one of the top wines in the vintage. A blend of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that comes from a southeast facing block in the Sheridan vineyard, it possess a seriously full-bodied, rich and structured style to go with decadent dark fruits, lead pencil, singed cedar and tobacco leaf-like romas and flavors. Give it another year or three and enjoy it over the following 10 to 15 years." - Jeb Dunnuck

2010 vintage notes, 98 points from The Wine Advocate: The incredible 2010 Block 1 comes from estate vineyards and is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 28 months in French oak. Massively concentrated, it offers up an ultra-rich, meaty bouquet of smoked black currants, sage brush, mint, dry-aged beef and brown spice that gives way to a full-bodied, muscular 2010 that has a serious amount of fruit and texture that’s cut by juicy, lively acidity and ripe tannin. It should be decanted for an hour or more if drinking anytime soon. It’s a unique, thrilling effort that will benefit from short-term cellaring and drink well for 15-20 years. Drink 2016-2030.

2009 Vintage

Wine Advocate 97-100 Points: The 2009 Block 1 is thicker, richer, more velvety, and more pleasure-bent than the 2008. It is a candidate for perfection once it goes into bottle. The intense Scott Greer is one of Washington’s rising stars. His wines are all sourced from estate vineyards which are just now starting to come into maturity. He keeps yields low and the farming and winemaking are impeccable. Greer notes that he harvests totally on taste...There is really no mystery as to what Scott Greer is doing at Sheridan; total attention to detail, a great vineyard, impeccable farming, and non-interventionist winemaking.

below, Sheridan's Estate Vineyard

From the winery: The 2009 Block 1 is an estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon from Sheridan's famed Block 1. It has a deep, sexy purple center that extends out to the rim. The nose is pure crème de cassis, which tells you this is Cabernet at its best. It also has hints of dark chocolate, pain grille, and layers of asian spice. On the palate, it is deep and rich with beautiful texture that displays full-bodied ripe tannins and amazing complexity. It is rich, layered, and opulent. This wine will age beautifully for 20+ years. - Winemaker Scott Greer

2008 Vintage

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 98 points: The 2008 Block 1 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 100% new French oak for 30 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it reluctantly gives up a brooding bouquet of pain grille, pencil lead, creme de cassis, black currants, floral notes, and earthy minerals. Dense, layered, and long, it will evolve gracefully for 6-8 years and will see in its 20th birthday in fine form.

Winemaker Scott Greer has outdone himself with this huge, complex big red, made from his Sheridan Vineyard fruit.

Winemakers like Andrew Will's Chris Camarda prize the fruit from this Yakima Valley vineyard. Chris was so impressed that he bought land next to the Sheridan Vineyard for his Andrew Will Estate vineyard.
