Review:

Wine Advocate 93-95 points: "...the 2011 l’Orage is a pretty, yet beautifully concentrated and full-bodied effort that oozes black fruits, currant, flowers and chocolate aromas and flavors. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc that will see close to two years in half new and half used French oak, it shows notable balance and elegance for such a big wine. It should drink reasonably well on release and have over a decade of evolution. Drink 2012-2026."

Luxuriously textured flavors of red plums, black currants and blueberries, shaded by cinnamon, caramel and unsweetened cocoa. The rich texture conceals serious structure on the back-end. This is going to age beautifully over 5-7 years. Highly recommended.

Dark purple to black core softens to a deep garnet rim with a sweet nose of cinnamon & caramel. The insanely thick texture envelopes the tongue leaving hints of unsweetened cocoa, and toasted cumin seed. The wine begins with a pillowy softness that belies the temperament and tannins that await once decanted. Primary flavors of black currant, licorice and cocoa unfold slowly with the tannin structure hiding in the background, sublime texture. Share this with only your best of friends. This wine will be best after 2-3 years of bottle aging and will drink beautifully over the next 20 years. - the winery

2009 Vintage

Wine Advocate 95-98 Points

Here Sheridan blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc into royal-purple velvet coat. This will be mind-blowing juice with a little decanting or with a couple years of bottle age. - Marcus

Parker's Wine Advocate gave 2009 Washington wines an unprecedented number of high scores. THE "Break Out" star of Wine Advocates reviews was Sheridan Vineyards. We've waited to get our hands on the 2009 Sheridan wines, and they're finally on their way. See what the buzz is all about!

2009 Wine Advocate - 95-98 points - The 2009 L'Orage, tasted from a barrel sample, is a flashy, exotic offering that appears to be slightly more pleasure-bent than its 2008 sibling. - Jay Miller

2008 Vintage

2008 Wine Advocate - 95 points - The 2008 L'Orage is composed of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Cabernet Franc aged for 26 months in 50% new oak. Super-fragrant notes of clove, cinnamon, incense, violets, black currant, and blackberry are followed by a wine that deftly combines elegance and power. Concentrated, ripe, and lengthy, this nicely proportioned wine will evolve for 4-5 years and drink well through 2028. - Jay Miller

2007 Vintage

2007 Wine Advocate - 95 points - The 2007 L'Orage is made up of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Cabernet Franc aged in 75% new French oak for 28 months before bottling without fining or filtration. Purple/black in color with a superb, brooding nose of herbs, lavender, Asian spices, tobacco, black currant, and blackberry On the palate it is full-bodied, opulent, dense, rich, and intensely flavored. The oak, tannin, and alcohol are totally harmonious, and all that is missing is another decade of cellaring. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2017 to 2037.

The 2007 L'Orage is a blend of 65% Cabernet and 35% cabernet Franc this wine shows a dark purple center leading to a bright ruby rim with a penetrating nose of Crème De Cassis, figs, cinnamon, dark chocolate and hints of coffee. In the mouth this full bodied wine is expansive, broad and long, touching every corner of your mouth. The entry is sweet and complex with the fruit flavors fanning out on the mid palate and a long finish that tells you this wine will only improve with aging over the next 12-15 years. - the winery

2006 Vintage

2006 Wine Advocate - 94 points - The 2006 L'Orage is composed of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Cabernet Franc aged for 26 months in 50% new French oak. Opaque purple/black in color, it has an alluring perfume of pain grille, spice box, creme de cassis, and blackberry. Rich, layered, and opulent on the palate, this weighty effort has fully integrated its oak and the lengthy finish suggests a long life ahead. It will offer a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2026."

From the winery: "The crown jewel of Sheridan Vineyard, L'Orage delights the eye with color befitting to a king, royal purple. L'Orage displays a beautifully forward spicy cocoa and cassis bouquet. You'll want to bury your nose in it! The vibrant palate is refined like custom silk, gliding across mouth with supple tannins and a finish that goes on forever. A majestic wine to age and enjoy."

The followup to Sheridan's monster initial offering, this is the 01 "Red". Kevin says it's better than the luscious 00, we're waiting impatiently to taste, and will post tasting notes as soon as we have a chance to try the wine.

Wine Spectator says: "This will be a sizeable operation when all 76 acres of the vineyard near Zillah are producing, but this first effort, from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot vines planted in 1997, marks this label as one to watch. Rich and artistocratic, it is utterly beguiling, with power, grace and marvelous blackberry, currant, blueberry, abd dark chocoalte notes swireling on a beautifully supple frame. Drink now through 2012." H.S.
