Review:

One of my favorite Sineann Pinots from any Vintage. Remarkable balance for such a rich Pinot. The blackberry and cherry fruit is highlighted by a light touch of spicy oak and the finish is vibrant and balanced. For lovers of bigger Pinots, the Schindler combines body with finesse. - Jean

This year, select fruit from the Schindler Vineyard was bottled privately for the French Laundry, so you know the vineyard has something special going on. Grape grower and practicing doctor Robert Schindler thinks Oregon Pinot noir is setting a new paradigm for the grape and can show Burgundy a thing or two about how this noble grape shines in New World cool climates.

The Schindler Vineyard is in the Eloa Hills area of Oregonís Willamette Valley and has just recently converted to Biodynamic practices, which are akin to going organic with a bit of witchcraft thrown in for good measure. There are 14 acres of Pinot noir and 6 acres of Chardonnay. The vines are now 14 years old and this is the third year that Sineann has received fruit from this vineyard. The first year Schindler fruit went into the Oregon blend. 2004 was the first single vineyard designate and really showed its stuff. - the winery

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

A darker profile than the other Sineann Pinots beginning with the nose and leading to the deep flavors of black berry and blueberry syrup, but finishing with great acidity to keep it fresh and balanced. There's a creme brulee note that begins in the aromas and reappears on the finish, with a dollop of Amarena cherry and earth. A gorgeously long finish that is accentuated by fine tannins. - Avalon

The 2008 Schindler Pinot Noir is big, dark and well structured. Of all the Sineann 2008 Pinots, this may the best candidate for extended aging. - winemaker Peter Rosback

2007 Vintage Tasting Notes

Very approachable, the 2007 Schindler first impresses with its appealing clean, fresh fruit flavors and scents. Blackberry, Marionberry -- the entire spectrum of darker berry flavors -- are present. Alongside the berry explosion is a complex spice melange of mellow nutmeg, cocoa nib, smoke, and toasted caramel. Tannins are spicy and unobtrusive. A second taste after a few minutes is even more appealing than the first. - Avalon
