Review:

In every vintage of the Soos Creek Artist Series wine, the one word I would use to best describe this wine is “balance”, i.e. balance between the acid, tannin, alcohol, flavors and oak. It is 49% Cabernet Franc, 44% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. The Cab Franc component provides the fruit and floral aromas while the Cab adds structure and the Merlot contributes herbal flavors. 2009 Vintage

This is our favorite vintage for Cabernet Franc, so we increased that varietal to 79% of the blend. The remainder is Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cab Franc component provides the fruit and floral aromas while the Cab adds structure, herbal flavors and a savory character. This year's label artwork is a painting by our son, Kevin Larsen.

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

2008 Wine Spectator - 91 points - Polished, focused and juicy with dark berry, showing a hint of cherry and an overlay of mineral and floral character. Lingers easily on the refined finish. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2016. - H.S.

2005 Vintage Tasting Notes

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate says: "The 2005 Artist Series #5 is composed of 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Cabernet Franc, and 11% Merlot. The nose of cedar, cinnamon, clove, vanilla, red currants, and black currants jumps from the glass. Layered, glossy, and deep, it has enough structure to evolve for 4-6 years. Drink it from 2012 to 2020."

The Soos Creek Artist Series #5 is a full-bodied but supple wine with excellent balance and a cornucopia of flavor nuances. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot from the Ciel du Cheval, Champoux and Pepper Bridge vineyards.
