Review:
I thought we really hit our stride with this wine in 2009 and this vintage is very similar in style. As big believers in Washington State Merlot, we continue to seek out the best Merlot vineyards to reach our goal of producing a world-class Merlot. This year’s wine is 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon. The style favors the earthy and herbaceous flavors in place of the fruit-forward character more typical for this varietal. - the winery
2008 Vintage
2008 Wine Enthusiast - 90 points - Pure Merlot, though not labled as such, this is broadly fruity with a play of strawberry, hard cherry candy, and citrus. The grape sources - Champoux, Klipsun and Baccchus vineyards - are impeccable. Tannins are stiff enough to put a stop to the finish, and to suggest that some further bottle age is called for.
2007 Vintage
This is a new wine and was inspired by a suggestion from a friend to make a wine in the style of the great Merlots produced in the Pomerol region of Bordeaux. It is 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. We were fortunate to source additional grapes from the Champoux, Klipsun and Kiona vineyards for this wine. The delicious flavors are definitely from Washington State but the structure is more serious than the typical Merlot. In fact, we think it has adequate tannin to age quite well. - the winery
