The 2011 Shea has intense, dark aromas of red and black fruits, dark flowers, anise and layered spices. Dense mixed berry fruits, spices and dried flowers layer the palate with broad, rich tannin and solid acidity. It is clearly the most complex and dimensional wine I produced. The level of richness, acidity and dense tannin structure will allow it to evolve over two decades. - the winemaker

2010 Vintage Tasting Notes

2010 Vintage Wine Advocate - 91 points - From a steep block on the eastern side of this famous vineyard complemented by some old vines on a broad upper terrace; dominated by Pommard Selection; and his only wine of the vintage to reach 13% alcohol (and then just barely), Vlossak’s 2010 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard smells of dark cherry, purple plum and holly berry, all shadowed by their penetrating, spirituous counterparts and tinged with mace. With considerable richness and textural polish, this comes off as softer and sweeter at mid‐palate than I anticipated from the nose; but bitterness of cherry pit and holly berry serves for a real sense of back‐end invigoration, and a combination of saliva‐liberating salinity and sheer sappy cling helps guarantee the desire to take the next sip. - David Schildknecht

2009 Vintage Tasting Notes

2009 Vintage Wine Advocate - 93 points - The 2009 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard has the best aromatics of this portfolio. It displays an impressive perfume of spicy black fruits, sandalwood, and exotic spices. This is followed by an opulent, plush offering unusual for its richness in this more elegantly styled vintage. This lengthy Pinot will offer prime drinking from 2012 to 2021. - Jay Miller

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

2008 Vintage Wine Advocate - 94 points - The dark ruby-colored 2008 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard is the most aromatically expressive of the portfolio. Aromas of sandalwood, Asian spices, incense, underbrush, and an amalgam of red and black fruits lead to a layered, nearly opulent wine with an extra dimension of complexity. With outstanding volume, precision, and focus, it will deliver hedonistic drinking pleasure through 2023, perhaps longer. - Jay Miller

2007 Vintage Tasting Notes

2007 Wine Advocate - 91 points - From the Willamette Valley’s best known vineyard, the 2007 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard has an expressive nose that was singing on the day I encountered it. Smoke, cola, cassis, and cherry aromas are followed by a smooth-textured, layered, sweetly-fruited, mouth-filling, medium-bodied wine with enough depth and structure to evolve for 2-3 years. It will provide pleasure through 2019. - Jay Miller
