Review:

The 2011 Pinot noir Temperance Hill has dark cherry and berry fruit and floral aromas with hints of smoky spices. dark red fruit on the entry, the spicy notes are balanced with bright acidity and rich, broad mid-palate tannins. Darker red fruits and dark flowers take over into the finish. Temperance Hill has a sense of "purity" and precision that is the hallmark of this cool site in the Eola-Amity Hills. This purity that makes it a great match with simple culinary preparations and grilled foods.

When I fire up the barbecue, this is the wine I serve. It matches perfectly with grilled salmon, meats, vegies and simple side dishes (my favorite summer meal). Ready to drink, the 2011 Pinot noir, Temperance Hill will evolve over 10 years. - the winemaker

2010 Vintage Tasting Notes

I love the Temperance Hill vineyard and Mark Vlossak's 2010 Temperance is one for the books!  The vineyard's signature aromas of tobacco, field grass, and herbs weaves with the dark red fruit followed by the slightest hint of toast from the 32% new french oak.  Cherries flow up front and are complemented by a pleasant creaminess. Eye-chee-wah-wah!

2010 Tanzer - 92 points - Deep red. Pungent, spice-accented aromas of cherry-cola, raspberry and potpourri, with a smoky overtone. 92 points Offers an array of deep, nicely focused red and dark berry preserve flavors. Spice and floral notes dominate on the very long, gently tannic, energetic finish. This wine's intense fruit gives it great immediate appeal but it has the balance to age. - J.R.

2010 Wine Spectator - 91 points - Ripe and soft, this gentle, plush style offers flavors that lean toward roasted meat and savory herb, balanced with generous currant fruit and lingering effectively on the refined finish. Drink now through 2018. - H.S.

The St. Innocent Temperance Hill Pinot noir 2010 is teeming with cherries and berries, dark floral aromas and smoky spices. Vibrant red fruit on the entry, the spicy notes are balanced with bright, juicy acidity. Darker red fruits and dark flowers take over into the finish. Temperance Hill has a sense of "purity" and precision that is the hallmark of this cool site in the Eola-Amity Hills.

When I fire up the barbecue, this is the wine I serve. It matches perfectly with grilled salmon, meats, vegies and potato salad (my favorite summer meal). Ready to drink, the 2010 Pinot noir, Temperance Hill will evolve over 8-10 years.

2009 Vintage Still Available. Call to order.

2009 Vintage

2009 Wine Advocate - 91 points - The 2009 Pinot Noir Temperance Hill Vineyard was aged in 26% new oak. Pleasing herbal notes, a characteristic of this site, are intertwined with spice box, incense, black cherry, and black raspberry aromas to form an enticing aromatic array. Mouth-filling on the palate, this smooth-textured, ripe, lengthy offering has the stuffing to evolve for 1-2 years and will provide enjoyment through 2019. - Jay Miller

This Pinot noir is especially good with simple food preparations emphasizing pure flavors - salmon, lamb chops, pork tenderloin and filet. - the winery

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

The 2008 Pinot noir Temperance Hill has aromas of ripe, sweet cherries, strawberry preserves, purple flowers, and a hint of smoke. Rich cherry fruit with hints of wild strawberries and earthy spices are backed by fresh acidity. This wine is very full across the palate without being heavy. The way the flavors and textures combine create a sense of purity that is the hallmark of this cool site in the Eola-Amity Hills. It is this purity that makes it such a great match with grilled foods. - Mark Vlosak

2007 Vintage Tasting Notes

The St. Innocent Temperance Hill Pinot noir 07 is made from an old section of Temperance Hill Vineyard. This 24 year old, phylloxera-effected section of the vineyard was pulled out and replaced in 2008. The grapes produced a small amount of intensely flavored Pommard clone grapes for the 2007 Pinot, making a wine that Mark Vlossak refers to as "a piece of history".

A subtle hint of lilacs mingles with sweet red cherry in the perfumed scent of the 2007 Temperance. Ripe, round, red berry and cherry flavors open and expand as spice notes extend the wine's smooth, lengthy finish. - Avalon
