Review:

From the coldest growing season on record with the latest pick dates on average, we harvested our 2011 Shea Vineyard fruit on October 28th. We were shocked to find that the wine had achieved an astonishing 23.2 degrees brix of sugar, numbers I would not have anticipated for such a late season. Combined with excellent physiological ripeness we were able to produce a wine that brings all the structure associated with a cool year but with fully developed flavors and tannins. High toned, bright red cherry and floral tones with hints of barrel toast emanate from the nose of this medium bodied Pinot Noir. The wine enters the palette with good focus and energy, revealing flavors of bing cherry and strawberry melded with savory notes and barrel spice. Showing good flesh and extract the wine moves seamlessly through the mid palette into a long clean finish. Aged in 45% New and 55% 1-year old French oak, I would anticipate that this wine will develop nicely in bottle for the next 6 to 8 years.
