Stevenson Barrie Pinot noir
Shea Vineyard 06
$35.95/$32.36

The Stevenson Barrie Shea Vineyard Pinot noir 06 is the most red fruited and integrated of Michael's three 2006 Pinots. Michael first made Pinot noir from Shea Vineyard in 1998, and his experience with the vineyard shows.

Scents of lavender and lilac, characteristic of Shea Vineyard, perfume the nose of the Shea 06. The characteristic Shea juicy red cherry and red berry flavors explode on the nose and palate followed by hints of asian spice, clove and cardamom. This Pinot is very reminiscent of the Shea Wine Cellars "Pommard". Youthful, the wine has good body and ageing characteristics.
Stunningly well priced -- A bargain!

Stevenson Barrie Pinot noir
Freedom Hill 06
$35.95/$32.36

"Round, sweet red fruit with a bit of earth" is how winemaker Michael Stevenson describes his 2006 Freedom Hill Pinot noir. Working with the vineyard since 1995, he sees new plantings (2000) producing exceptional fruit from the Coury clone, one of the first planted in Oregon and a particular favorite of his. "The best days are ahead for the vineyard" says Michael.

The Stevenson Barrie Freedom Hill Pinot noir 06 has rich and intense aromas of toasted hazelnut, like walking through a European Christmas market. Black cherry, sun ripened raspberries and slightly savory meatiness combine for a very complete wine. Both mouth watering and structured, the Freedom Hill's balance encourages us to try cellaring it for several years to see how the wine evolves.

Freedom Hill Vineyard

Freedom Hill Vineyard (above) is located in the foothills of the Oregon's Coast Range 10 miles southwest of Salem, Oregon. Located further west than most other Willamette Valley sites, it receives the first cooling breezes of the Pacific Ocean in the late afternoons.

Matt Kramer, Wine Spectator columnist and Oregonian, described The Stevenson Barrie 2003 Freedom Hill Pinot noir as a wine of "striking purity allied to a just-right balance". The description is accurate for his 2006 Pinot as well.

Temperance Hill 06

The Stevenson Barrie Temperance Hill Pinot noir 06 is big, bold and slightly earthy. The nose is captivating - candied cranberries and coffee beans. The sweet juicy mountain strawberry flavor combines with a slight cinnamon spiciness and creamy texture.

Michael Stevenson describes the "Temperance Hill flavor" as, "darker fruit, mineral & earth character; a little more structure than from the Red Hills, with higher acidity." His fruit comes from the second highest block in the vineyard.

The 2006 Temperance Pinot benefited from the combination of a hot vintage with a cooler, higher vineyard site. Michael says that "fully but not overripe ripe fruit combined with a racy natural acidity to produce a focused, linear wine that expresses the character of the site and of the vintage".
