Trust Cellars Syrah 07
winery: Trust Cellars
This is incredible juice. Trust Syrah 07 follows the style of past vintages - it's more like a great Northern Rhone Syrah (think Cornas) than most New World Syrahs. Smoky blackberry, black raspberry and sweet red cherry are woven with ribbons of five-spice and maple. It's a big, richly textured wine, which stays fresh through the long finish with the help of nice acidity, mineral nuances and white pepper accents.
Highly recommended. 100% Syrah from Lewis, Portteus, and Sundance Vineyards. 320 cases made.

2006 Vintage Tasting Notes
Deliciously pure Syrah, signaled by aromas of black fruit, bacon fat, and white pepper. Deep, juicy flavors of black cherry and black raspberry fill your mouth and sail through the finish, picking up hints of campfire smoke, minerals, and cola spice. The 06 Trust offers refinement and balance at a time when so many new world Syrahs are over-the-top. An excellent value, and an Avalon Big Reds Club selection.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Complex scents of black cherry, cassis, cola, sasparilla, and hints of a foiral component, possibly derived from a bit of Viognier in the blend. Flavors are perceived through a rich, viscous mouthfeel. The wine is huge, with lots of body- black fruit is joined by floral, spice, licorice notes. Despite its biggness, the wine finishes with a very refreshing sense and a lively acidity. - jean Winemaker Steve Brooks says: "All the lots that went into the 2005 Syrah were punched down by hand during fermentation. They all went to dryness on the skins and then were pressed to tank and allowed to settle overnight before barreling down. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel. Most of the wine was aged in older barrels with only 12.5% of the blend being aged in new French oak. There is also a little bit of Cabernet Sauvignon (12.5%) in the blend, which adds a velvety mouth-feel to the finished wine. Dried black cherry, espresso and vanilla on the nose."
