Van Duzer Perplexity Red Dessert Wine 01
Van Duzer Perplexity Red Dessert Wine 01 is new for Van Duzer in 2009.
The traditional Portugese grapes that are the stuff of fine Ports mingle seamlessly in Perplexity to serve up honeyed impressions of mulled plum and blackberry fruit. Aromas and taste impressions bring to mind Grandfather's humidor, tempered by layers of anise, bitter chocolate and tobacco. The sweet fullness and wonderful balance forcibly occupy the palate and linger long.
This heady 2001 fortified wine is ready to drink now but embraces a structure that will age for an additional 10 years. Served in lieu of dessert, a multidimensional Port wine reaches sensory heights when paired with dry cheese, Stilton, figs, walnuts and dried fruits. - the winery
THE VINEYARDS
It was too much to resist. When Van Duzer owner Carl Thoma learned of a stand of the heritage vines that are the stuff of Portugal’s namesake wine, he jumped at the chance to create a memorable wine for friends. Rarely cultivated in the United States, the grape varietals Souzão, Tinta Cão, Valdepeñas and Tourigal possess impressive complexity and aging possibility.
