Sometimes, wine deals come along that make us scratch our heads and say, "really?!" Such is the case with these three head-scratching values, including Andrew Will Syrah for under $20. Wha-what?!

-

Andrew Will wine for under $20 a bottle?! Andrew Will's Annie Camarda Syrah 2004 normally sells for $60. We're helping the winery move 10 cases for $18.86 a bottle by the case. There's not much made - it doesn't even show up on his website - and it's one of our favorite Syrahs.

-

Washington Cotes du Rhône-style blend for under $10 by the case?! Cotes de Bruneaux 07 is a project of Portland-based wine distributor Casa Bruno. They teamed up with Andrew Rich to make a Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre blend that competes with the better values from Southern France. Cotes de Bruneaux 07 resets the bar for value-priced Northwest Rhône-style reds.

-

And another, even better one for under $15?! If you like Rhône-style blends, Red Splendor rocks. Another Andrew Rich-made blend, this one is full of big, peppery black fruits. More robust and with a little more backbone than the Cotes de Bruneaux.

-

Don't get caught scratching your head too long -
there are only 10 cases of Andrew Will Syrah.

Annie Camarda Syrah 04 $20.95/$18.86

WAS $59.95!!!

-

Parker 90 points: "Chris Camarda's efforts with Syrah deserve serious attention. The Annie Camarda Syrah is blended of fruit from the Champoux and Ciel du Cheval Vineyards, two of eastern Washington's finest.

-

The 2004 Syrah Annie Camarda is exceptionally fragrant, with aromas of bacon, blueberry, and violets jumping from the glass. On the palate, ample sweet fruit asserts itself leading to a long, pure finish. Although it can be enjoyed now, 2-3 years in the cellar should lead to greater aromatic complexity and a smoother texture."

-

Annie Camarda is drinking perfectly right now, with a silky frame from start to finish.

-

Red Splendor 08 $14.45/$13.00

-

This wine, made by by Andrew Rich, is part of the NW Vine Project, a group of inexpensive wines made for a Pacific Northwest wine distributor. It is burly and bright, brimming with peppery black fruits. The NW Vine Project wines are super values and not readily available outside the northwest.

-

Red Splendor 08: 44% Mourvedre, 36% Syrah, and 20% Grenache - Primarily from the Horse Heaven Hills.

-

-

The best value Washington Syrah.

-

Ex Umbris Syrah 08 has rad aromas of smoke, flint, meat and heaps of black fruit. A nice vein of red berry weaves through the black fruit heart, with accents of lavender, hoisin, and cocoa on the finish. - Marcus

-

Fantastic reviews often lead to price increases. Not so with Owen Roe. Ex Umbris' price has stayed the same through raves, like when the 2005 was #69 on Wine Spectator's Top 100 in 2007, and last year's WS 92 for the 2007 vintage.

Owen Roe did not make a 2007 Dubrul Merlot, and this wine is highly anticipated. Only 120 cases were made. Winemaker David O'Reilly says: "this is a fruit-filled, highly textured Merlot. Nice, sweet berry fruit and geniune balance make this an opulent wine without the alcohol weight of the 2006. It is made from the same few rows of old vine Merlot we always harvest at Dubrul Vineyard."

Super-limited: only 160 cases made. Intense and mouth-filling. Peppered bacon, black fruits, crushed violets, vanilla bean and five spice stain your tongue while they caress it. Even with its viscous, fleshy nature, the Chapel Block retains freshness and finishes with integrated tannins. - Marcus

-

2008 marks the first release of the Chapel Block Syrah, which is from Red Willow Vineyard in Yakima (source of the incredible, sold-out 1973 Block Cabernet).

The first thing I wrote was "better and cheaper?" and I ought to stick with it. That's right - Washington's best value Cab just got...bester. The 2008 Sharecropper's Cab is full of purple fruit goodness complemented by the exuberant tannins. And the price? Under $15. - Marcus
