Westrey Pinot noir Willamette Valley 08

Winery: Westrey Wines

Westrey Pinot noir Willamette Valley 08 - Morel cream, red fruit, forest scents open to a gorgeous, silky display of fresh black cherry and blackberry. There's a ribbon of sweet red berries mixing with cardamom and rosemary on the finish. Another outstanding value from Westrey.

From the winery:

Great natural acidity, balanced by powerful, complex and ageworthy fruit, is the hallmark of the vintage. The wine has a broad flavor spectrum of Bing cherry, blueberry and sweet spice. Fruit aromas are complemented by notes of sweet clove spice and a hint of toasty vanilla oak. On the palate the wine is open and opulent, with loads of pure Pinot fruit, leading into a rich mid-palate and a balanced finish with a hint of well-integrated tannin. The vineyard sources for the 2008 include 40% from our own Oracle Vineyard, 20% Momtazi Vineyard, 30% Coehlo Vineyard, and 10% La Cantera Vineyard.

This is the first of Westrey’s Pinots to be released from the beautiful and much-anticipated 2008 vintage. The growing season in 2008 was excellent for Pinot Noir. It started as the latest bud break on record and progressed through a long, cool summer and into a beautiful October that allowed for picking under sunny skies into November.

The wine was bottled without fining or filtration. Aging and a complete indigenous malo-lactic fermentation took place in 100% French oak, with 23% new and 30% one-year old barrels. 782 cases produced.

An attractive bright, ruby color complements an aroma of roses, raspberry and strawberry. Raspberry and strawberry flavors develop as the wine opens with delicate hints of spice. The 2007 vintage is refreshing and perfect with lighter foods.
