Review:

Magnum size bottle. The most recent success from Westrey. Red fruit - mostly crushed raspberry and wild mountain strawberry - subtle smoke, and white flowers. The wine melds forward fruit with a bright and lively character. - Marcus

Preview 2011 Vintage: The 2011 vintage looks a lot like the 2010 vintage, with cool-climate aromatics, good acidity and bright red fruits. In 2011, the low yield, combined with an extremely long, cool-to-cold growing season which provided the opportunity for the fruit to develop and grow more complex and classic until picking on the 28th of October. Under sunny skies, we brought in all of he fruit in 6 long days. The fruit was so cold, we had an average of nine day cold soaks to coax the resilient red current, red-raspbery, white pepper and white chocolate character of the vintage out of the small amount of Pinot we had. The wine is very coy right now. It has a long ways to go to show the wonders of the vintage. The 3rd in a trio of cool vintages in the last four, it may be the most exotic and long lasting one. - the winery

2009 Vintage

The Westrey 2009 Willamette Valley Pinot noir has a broad flavor spectrum of raspberry, blueberry and sweet spice. Fruit aromas are complemented by notes of sweet clove spice and a hint of toasty vanilla oak. On the palate the wine is open and opulent, with loads of pure Pinot fruit, leading into a rich mid-palate and a balanced finish with a hint of well integrated tannin. - Amy

From the winery - The 2009 is the first of Westrey’s Pinots to be released from the beautiful and extremely well balanced 2009 vintage. The growing season in 2009 was excellent for Pinot Noir, it started with a late bud break and progressed through a long cool summer and into a beautiful October that allowed for picking under sunny skies. Great natural acidity, balanced by powerful, complex and ageworthy fruit is the hallmark of the vintage.

The vineyard sources for the 2009 include 53% from our own Oracle Vineyard, 15% Abbey Ridge Vineyard, 23% Coehlo Vineyard, 8% La Cantera Vineyard and 2% Justice Vineyard.

The wine was bottled without fining or filtration. Aging and a complete indigenous malo-lactic fermentation took place in 100% French oak, with approximately 25% new wood.

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

Westrey Pinot noir Willamette Valley 08 - Morel cream, red fruit, forest scents open to a gorgeous, silky display of fresh black cherry and blackberry. There's a ribbon of sweet red berries mixing with cardamom and rosemary on the finish. Another outstanding value from Westrey.

2007 Vintage Tasting Notes

This is one classy value Pinot, and certainly the best Willamette Valley Pinot yet from Westrey. The nose is so pretty and elegant, with crushed raspberries, hints of pie cherry and cranberry that echo in the flavors. A seamless wine, with a surprisingly big finish, and the right combination of silky and juicy. Two years from now, I'll be sipping the 07 Westrey, wishing I had another case in the cellar. - Avalon

Always reflective of the vintage, the 2007 Willamette Valley blend offers juicy raspberry and cherry flavors with finesse and balance. An attractive bright, ruby color complements an aroma of roses, raspberry and strawberry. Raspberry and strawberry flavors develop as the wine opens with delicate hints of spice. The 2007 vintage is refreshing and perfect with lighter foods.
