Review:

Wafts of jasmine and candied citrus immediately attract your attention. The 2011 Winderlea is one of those Chardonnays that sets off a craving as soon as you smell it. Excellent texture throughout like a perfect Key Lime custard. The essence of jasmine returns in the finish, which weaves with the airy peaks of a lemon meringue. - Andy

Robert Brittan (Brittan Vineyards) makes the Winderlea wines and is the guiding hand at Ayoub. Needless to say his 2011 Chardonnays are something special.

2010 Vintage

Apple, candied lime, high-toned herbal extracts, and diverse floral perfumes waft from the glass of Winderlea’s 2010 Chardonnay, sourced from three vineyards in three A.V.A.s. Slightly less complex but undeniably winsome in the mouth, this preserves a nice balance of leesy richness with refreshment (enhanced by a mere 20% share of new barrels and a roughly 15% share of small stainless steel tanks) through a satisfyingly persistent finish. - Wine Advocate

2009 Vintage Tasting Notes

2009 Wine Advocate - 90 points - The 2009 Chardonnay is a bit fatter and riper but with less concentration and focus. Even so, it is a tasty, forward wine meant for drinking over the next 3-4 years. - Jay Miller

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

2008 Wine Advocate - 91 points - The 2008 Chardonnay is a 50-50 blend of Carabella and Hyland vineyards. aged in 25% new oak and stainless steel for 11 months. Aromas of popcorn, pear, and spiced apple inform the nose of a concentrated, savory, spicy Chardonnay that offers excellent balance and length. It will continue to provide enjoyment for another 4-5 years. - Jay Miller

2007 Vintage Tasting Notes

The 2007 Chardonnay was sourced from the Carabella and Hyland Vineyards. Most of the wine was aged in barrel (87% with 13% new) and the balance in stainless steel. Medium straw-colored, it offers up an excellent nose of baking spices, mineral, apple, poached pear, and a hint of pineapple. Mouth-filling on the palate with vibrant natural acidity, it has superb depth and concentration, a creamy texture, and a lengthy, pure finish. It may well evolve for 1-2 years and can be enjoyed through 2015. - Jay Miller

"Winderlea Vineyard and Winery is owned by Donna Morris and Bill Sweat who purchased the former Goldschmidt Vineyard in 2006. Now known as the Winderlea Vineyard, it was originally planted in 1972 with the oldest remaining blocks dating from 1974. The owners are moving toward biodynamic farming."

From the winery -

Our inaugural Chardonnay was sourced from the Carabella Vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains and the Hyland Vineyard in McMinnville. All of the fruit was carefully double sorted and then 87% barrel fermented and 13% fermented in stainless steel. The wine was left on its lees for 6 months and barrel aged in French oak barrels (13% new) for 10 months. The wine has a mineral component with excellent acid and structure. It has a core of crisp apple and ripe stone fruit with a minimum of 5-10 years. 345 cases produced.
