The Early Muscat comes from the Abiqua Wind Vineyard of Charles "Pete" Buffington and his wife Marsha. They come to growing grapes from other traditional farming pursuits. Originally sheep farmers in Southern Oregon, they decided to go into commercial fishing when the family ranch was sold. When the fishing industry fell on hard times, they decided to go into grapes and Christmas trees. That is when they bought their spectacular vineyard in the Scotts Mills area east of Silverton. Their 7+ acre vineyard was planted in 1978 and1984 to Early Muscat, Pinot Gris and Mueller Turgau. The vineyard is on Hullt and McCully soils which are both clay loam.
