MORE INFORMATIONIf you like huge reds with a little bit of a difference, Zefina seems to specialize in them. All the wines are a bit different, either a somewhat unusual varietal for WA (Zinfandel) or a unique and fascinating blend (Serience Red, Serience White). The wines are made to drink immediately, for the most part, and offer immediate and high levels of gratification for those who like big Yumm Buckets. Background Zefina is part of a larger company, Corus Brands, formerly known as Associated Vintners, the owner of Covey Run, Columbia Winery, and Ste Chapelle. Associated sold those wineries in 2001 to wine industry giant Canandaigua Wines, changed its name to Corus, and retained its ownership of Sawtooth Winery and its vineyards near the Columbia River Gorge. Corus now owns Sawtooth, Zefina, and two new wineries whose first releases are not yet out: Battle Creek, making Pinot noirs from Oregon, and Alder Ridge, making Bordeaux varietal based reds, with first releases in late 2004. Winemaker Zefina's winemaker is the amazing Charlie Hoppes, whose work with wineries including Canon de Sol, Three Rivers, and his own Fidelitas is well known to WA winelovers. He's one of the most talented winemakers in the NW, and consistently makes beautiful wines.
