Abacela Tempranillo Reserve 07

The single most important prerequisite of our Reserve wines is vineyard provenance. This mandate so guides our winemaking philosophy that prior to the 2005 vintage we have produced only two Reserve wines. In 2005 we detected the required benchmark qualities in the Tempranillo fruit from the rocky, sandy soils in our estate’s South East, Angle and Knoll blocks. - the winery

Deep, brooding, complex aromas of ripe blackberry, raspberry, currants, pencil lead, and spice slowly evolve. The palate brims with plum, crushed berries, cedar, and vanilla with well integrated oak hints.

The texture is full-bodied with perfectly balanced acidity that slowly builds to a rich, dense, powerfully structured finish. Perfectly balanced acidity and concentrated fruit build to a generously tannic, lengthy finish. Cellar this for the next eight to twelve years.

Very very impressive offering from a winery whose pioneering work with the Tempranillo grape in Oregon is showing greater rewards than anyone (except perhaps the winemaker) would have thought. Earl and Hilda have single-handedly produced world-class Tempranillo and this is their finest wine yet. Hands down, this wine's release marks a major event in the Oregon wine industry.
