Carabella Chardonnay 2005

This bright yellow gold Chardonnay is fairly viscous with slow moving legs. On the nose, earth, chalk, and slate give a distinct sense of terroir, a signature of the place. Along with this are the more typical fruit, butter, and oak notes, in this case orange zest, candied orange, Irish butter, and vanilla. On the palate the wine is round, silky, and medium bodied. Toasty oak, juicy red delicious apple sweetness and acidity, and green apple tartness round out the wine. The finish is long. Delicious with Cracked Crab and drawn butter, it also would pair nicely with a chicken gruyere roulade or Veal Blanquette.

Previous vintage notes

"Highly Recommended" Northwest Palate Magazine: "Clean, delicate aromas of vanillin toast and apple fruit. Ripe and juicy yet restrained, with lingering flavors of apple and cream. Elegant and well balanced, with a subtle spiciness in the aftertaste. Pair with halibut and gremolata. 530 cases made."

All Estate fruit, this Chardonnay is considered one of the best made in the NW by industry insiders. Barrel fermented, full bodied, rich wine for sipping or serving with chicken, cheese and crackers, etc. This Chardonnay is 100% Dijon 76 Clone - it is very yummy.

Oregon Wine Report says: "Deep and mellow, very yellow color. Rich sweet fruit and toasty aromas of tangerine and pear. Lightly buttery, soft, but not lush texture carries bright fruity flavors of pear and nectarine, some light toasty notes as well. Nice backbone of acidity; long but subtle fruity finish showing distinct pear notes."
