Coleman Pinot Noir Reserve 03/04

Winery: Coleman

Lovely. At our annual Avalon Wine Club Tasting, the 2003 Reserve was the hit of the event. Color is dark garnet, the wine starts with scents of fresh cherry fruit, a hint of smoke, and a bit of barnyard. Flavors are of black stone fruit, black berries, a distinct streak of warm pie spices, fresh earth, and white pepper. The finish is very long and echoes the complex flavors. Very well balanced, a hint of the rich flavors in this warm vintage integrate well in the overall "big" style of this Pinot noir.

MORE INFORMATION

The Pinot Noir Estate Reserve is a blend of Coleman Vineyard clones Pommard, Dijon 114, and Dijon 115. The grapes were cropped to yields of approximately two tons/acre, hand-sorted, and then fermented whole berry with selected yeast strains in very small temperature-controlled batches. Aged for seventeen months in fifty percent new French oak, it is a culmination of our most distinct barrels.

Wonderful served with salmon, duck, lamb, pates, wild mushrooms, truffle risotto, berry sauces, and dark chocolate. Some Japanese chefs feel that Pinot Noir has the perfect 'unami' for pairing with food. This wine can certainly be cellared, but we don't know if we can wait.
