2010 Vintage Wine Spectator - 91 points - A refreshing core of currant and boysenberry fruit shines through a frame of firm tannins, remaining light on its feet as the ball of flavor rolls through the finish. Best from 2015 through 2020. - H.S.

2009 Vintage Tasting Notes

I did some very informal polling of Oregon Sommeliers and Wine Buyers recently and found a surprising amount of agreement among them. In fact, they ranked Cristom as their hands down local favorite. These are people, mind you, who taste hundreds if not thousands of wines each year.

At this family-owned estate west of Salem, all of the Pinot Noir vineyards are named after the matriarchs in the family: Jessie, Eileen, Louise and Marjorie. Marjorie has always been my favorite with it’s unique combination of fruit purity, elegance, structure and intriguing earthy notes.

Even in a warmer year like 2009, Steve Doerner has coaxed excellent levels of acidity out of the fruit and that will help this wine age well, as Steve says, “for a decade”. I think it will likely hang on for longer than that. - Avalon

"Forward flavors of strawberry preserves and candied orange, suggestive of marmalade, along with a streak of root beer and pleasing spice." - Paul Gregutt

"The most forward of Cristom’s 2009 single-vineyard Pinots, this shows flavors of strawberry preserves and candied orange, suggestive of marmalade. It has a streak of root beer and pleasing spice, with a quick finish." - Paul Gregutt

2009 Wine Enthusiast - 90 points -

This ruby colored Pinot Noir has great complex aromas of ripe black currants and raspberries along with exotic spices and vanilla from the oak. The flavors are equally compelling and complex with a myriad of different fruits and spices and hints of dried herbs and gaminess. The Marjorie Vineyard usually produces our most tannic wines, although this vintage seems more restrained in that category. It is a big wine, but it finishes relatively soft and satisfying. This wine should age well for a decade. - Steve Doerner, Winemaker

Marjorie Vineyard was planted in 1982. It is the only vineyard that Cristom kept when the property was purchased in 1992. It is a distinctive site that has wider spacing (605 vines per acre) than the subsequently planted vineyards. All the vineyards are planted on mineral-rich volcanic soils but the soils of Marjorie have the highest percentage of the Jory type. Marjorie is also more east facing than our other vineyard sites. - the winery

2008 Vintage Tasting Notes

2008 Tanzer - 94 points

Marjorie is a nice combination of elegance and power, with layered red fruits and sweet herb accents. Cristom Pinots are structured and best when cellared for several years.
