DiStefano WinesDiStefano, a small Washington State winery, makes highly regarded red and white wines. Their motto is "Old world winemaking, new world charm." DiStefano's Sauvignon Blanc, in their beautiful large shouldered bottles with their trademark Renaissance portrait label, is a crisp, balanced, delicious white, intense enough for fairly strongly flavored dishes, or well paired with cheese and crackers. They also make a Semillon. Their red wines, a Cab, Cab Reserve, and Bordeaux blend called Sogno, are big, rich, earthy wines with lots of Washington State's characteristic big fruit, leather, coffee and chocolate notes, and deep dense tannins, well integrated but best after 3-5 years of cellaring. The winery was established in 1983 and was one of the five original Woodinville wineries. Woodinville is now home to more than 90 tasting rooms! DiStefano does not own its own vineyards but buys their grapes from well known vineyards in the Yakima Valley, Columbia Valley, Wahluke Slope, and Horse Heaven Hills. Their wines consistently receive high marks from the national and international wine press. Winery personnel includes Mark Newton (founder and winemaker), Donna DiStefano (special events director and owner), Tracey LaPierre (associate winemaker), Alla Kostenko (operations manager), Jaci Kajfas (office and tasting room manager), Ralph Ripple (finance), Victor DeLaluz (cellar master) and George Stevenson (executive chef). |
