Elk Cove Pinot Noir Roosevelt Vineyard 08
Wine Spectator 93 points
Firm, focused and distinctive for the tangy edge to its mineral-accented cherry, blackberry and charred meat flavors, melding easily into a single thrust on the complex and vivid finish. Best from 2011 through 2018. 281 cases made. - H.S.
The Roosevelt Vineyard is a four acre planting situated just south of the winery on Willakenzie soils. The south facing hillside points to a steep precipice overlooking the magnificent Williams Canyon. It is a high density planting with 2100 vines per acre spaced approximately one meter by two meters apart. This steep hillside vineyard undergoes extensive pruning and cluster thinning to limit yields and maximize ripening in order to concentrate the fruit.
A deliciously rich and velvety Pinot Noir, the Roosevelt also has excellent structure and explosive fruit. The deep ruby color and concentrated sweet black cherry flavors on the palate are further evidence of the tiny berries and low yields from the small vineyard. This wine will age gracefully over the next twenty years.
