The de Lancellotti - Bergstrom Connection

Looking to get into Oregon Pinot noir? There's no better brother-in-law to have than Josh Bergstrom. Paul de Lancellotti's passion for his biodynamically farmed vineyard produces lavishly elegant and refined Pinot noirs. The de Lancellotti Family Vineyards 2006 Pinot noir is made by Josh Bergstrom and brother-in-law Paul de Lancellotti.

2006 de Lancellotti Family Vineyards Pinot noir is exceptional. It's an extravert, with heady aromas of pure cherry perfume with vanilla bean and violet accents. The flavors hit you with sappy fruit in spades as layers of marionberry and blackberry pie dance with black cherry creme and hints of truffle. An uplifting juiciness appears toward the finish, complementing the nicely-integrated oak and rich fruit.

There's so much supple fruit to like in the 06 de Lancellotti Pinot. Extended barrel aging--18 months--plus four months in the bottle allowed for a silkier texture upon release.

Only six barrels (150 cases) were made. The 2006 is a blend of four barrels of Pommard clone, and two barrels of Dijon clone 115.

Paul de Lancellotti is fanatical about Biodynamic farming. The de Lancellotti Vineyard is Demeter-certified Biodynamic. According to Paul, his Pinot captures the essence of the vineyard. The wine is a collaboration between Paul and his brother-in-law, Josh Bergstrom.

Fresh blackberry, black raspberry, and black cherry scents rule in the nose, with sweet black stone and berry fruit flavors following through in the mouth. Smooth, silky tannins bolster heaps of fresh, fresh fruit and a just discernable, sophisticated acidity heightens and lengthens the long, layered finish. Hints of minerals, slate, and a lilting violet floral element add to the mix.

This is the third vintage of the Ayoub Pinot noir we've offered. The 2006 shows a multiplicity of flavors and intricate hints of fruit, mineral, spice, and floral elements. Ayoub Vineyard's vines are clearly maturing, yielding a Pinot with every bit as much sweet fruit as before, but with an additional level of quality that separates this site from others.
