Big Red Monster Truck of a Wine Rolls Into Town
O-S Winery's BSH Red 04 (Brick Sh** House)

and
Last call on Andrew Will Champoux 04--- Wine Spec 95 pt Betz La Cote Rousse in Syrah Pack

Bill Owen's most popular, monster truck of a red wine, his BSH (Brick Sh** House) 04 vintage is here. This vintage is made from Ciel du Cheval, Champoux, and Sheridan Vineyard fruit.

O-S Winery BSH Red WineO-S BSH (Brick Sh** House) 04 $38.25/$42.50
Wine Spectator says: "From their jury-rigged winery in a nondescript business park near Seattle-Tacoma Airport, Bill Owen and Rob Sullivan are making some of Washington’s plushest and headiest reds."

“The BSH is a reflection of my love for Bordeaux,” says Bill Owen during a recent visit to Avalon. With a delightful blend of chocolate, raspberry, and a hint of smooth anise, this BSH is not just a bomb of heat and oak. Instead, it is a bold, expressive and complex wine—worthy of a really good dinner—or a special occasion.

This wine really is, as the winemaker says, built like a Brick Sh*t House (BSH). This huge red offers so much satisfaction, it's become a favorite among Avalon's employees. It's predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with a dollop of Merlot and a bit of Cabernet Franc.

Mocha and spice, desert herbs and licorice overlay a classic Cabernet with big black fruit flavors and a long finish. Flavors of mocha and spice with herb and licorice overlay a classic Cabernet with big black fruit flavors and a long finish. Very satisfying and beautifully integrated with layers and layers of flavor.

Betz Wine Spectator 95 Point Syrah
in

Avalon NW Syrah 6-Pack

Six different Northwest Syrahs, all made in very limited amounts, headlined by the Betz La Cote Rousse 04, Wine Spectator rated as Highly Recommended and 95 points. All of these wines are sold out except in this special pack.

1 bottle -- Betz La Cote Rousse '04 95 WS ($48)
Wine Spectator 95 Points

Betz La Cote RousseDeep, dark, dense and powerful, a reverberant mouthful of smoky blackberry, black cherry and licorice, hinting at pepper and cream as the finish sails on and on. Gorgeous stuff, and the tannins are beautifully managed. Best from 2008 through 2014.—H.S.

1 bottle -- Betz La Serenne '04 ($48)
Dense black fruits, roasted coffee, earthy aromas and the black berry, smoky flavors, but the overall palate impact, huge and yet supple, is what lingers in my mind. Characteristic, abundant silky tannins. For me the overriding impression with this wine is its seamlessness on the palate. - Bob Betz

1 bottle -- Viento "Cuvee R" '03 ($22)
Wine Spectator 90 Points
A lot of body and plush black fruit for the price. Fruit from impeccable vineyards: 66% Alder Ridge Syrah, 33% Lonesome Springs Ranch Syrah, 1% Viognier. The bouquet shows the black fruit character of Syrah along with earthy exotic spice and smoke notes. Ripe, lush and gently oaked in the palate.

O-S Winery1 bottle -- O-S Winery Dineen Vineyard Syrah '04 ($31)
This is a WOW Washington Syrah! Big perfumey nose of black cherry liqueur and violets, with incredible concentration. It’s rare to find a Northwest Syrah with such good acidity and balance (and the 13.8% alcohol is refreshing too!). Lush, rich, and just yummy, Owen’s small batch of Syrah from Yakima’s Dineen Vineyard is a prime example of Washington’s Syrah potential.

1 bottle -- Owen Roe Lady Rosa Syrah 2004 ($47)
Wine Spectator rating 91 points Smooth, with vibrant acidity to balance the ripe blueberry, toast and spice flavors that keep singing through the long, fine-grained finish. Best from 2008 through 2014.—H.S."
from our wine library (it's long sold out at winery)

1 bottle -- Stephenson Cellars Syrah '03 ($29)
94 Wine Enthusiast
This tiny Walla Walla producer made just 220 cases of this Willow Crest Vineyard Syrah. It's a dazzling display of elegant power, offering polished red fruits with overtones of peach, apricot and candied orange. Finishes with a well-defined tannic edge nuanced with ash and smoke.

Andrew Will Champoux 04

Wine Advocate 93 points for 2003 vintage, one of Washington's most prestigious reds for cellaring and an impressive corporate gift.

Long before Parker rates this vintage, which we find as good or better than the 2003, it will be gone. Here are Marcus's tasting notes:

Chris Camarda of Andrew Will WineryWow the nose! Impossibly inviting aromas of sweet black cherry pie with black raspberry, dark chocolate, and hints of baking spice. I just couldn't stop smelling it. The Champoux fruit core is dense, wound up with black and red red fruit in innummerable layers. Supple and silky with powder-fine tannins. The whole wine is wrapped with a delicate Bordeaux-like herbal note that adds complexity like the sizzle of a jazz ride cymbal--it just fits. Give it air, give it time and you'll see why this is one of the finest wines from one of the finest vineyards in the entire Pacific Northwest. 44% Cab/22% Merlot/25% Cab Franc/9% Petit Verdot - ml

We're almost out. Perhaps you've been collecting this wine each year and need to fill in your vertical? Or perhaps the Andrew Will Champoux would be just the right gift to tell your clients or friends that you appreciate them?
