Parker 94 Point Washington Cabernet
Tiny Production of Woodward Canyon Old Vine 04

- Andrew Will Sorella 04 - Last Call

Some of the oldest Cabernet Sauvignon vines in Walla Walla's Washington State plus one of Walla Walla's most experienced winemakers equals one Cabernet Sauvignon that "elevates the bar" (Parker) for all of Washington's Cab offerings.

A tiny 2004 vintage (this was the winter of the bad storms that destroyed so many vines) equals small, intensely flavored berries of unusually complex flavor. It also produced the smallest amt of this wine in years. We're very grateful to the winery for allowing us to offer this cellar selection.

The Woodward Old Vine Cab is one of the highest rated WA wines
in Parker's August 2007 Wine Advocate Washington reviews.

"The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines
(35 years old) elevates the bar."

"Composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, it is opaque purple-colored and delivers a superb perfume of pain grille, scortched earth, espresso, black currants, and blueberries. This is followed by an extracted wine with richly flavored dark fruits, outstanding concentration, and great balance leading to a 60-second, pure finish."

"Give this powerful wine 4-6 years of additional bottle age and drink it through 2035."

-- Parker's Wine Advocate 8-31-07

This 2004 'Old Vines' Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich and powerful red wine. It expresses the purity of fully mature cabernet sauvignon fruit that one only can get from 35 year old vines. The Petit Verdot offers another layer of complexity and broadens the flavor profile of the wine beautifully. Grapes come from the oldest section, "Block One" of Champoux Vineyard (59%) and old vines at Sagemoor Vineyard (37%). The 4% Petit Verdot is from the Woodward Estate Vineyard.

Flavors of dried black cherry and cassis married with spicy new oak and vanilla coat the mouth. The texture is soft and silky yet there are firm mature tannins in the rich, long finish. The color is dark blackish purple and complex fruit aromas leap from the glass.

This red wine will benefit greatly from additional cellaring and, with proper storage, should last for twelve years or more.

Was Gone, Found a Bit more
Andrew Will Sorella 04
Ever stick your nose in a glass of wine and do a little dance? Although I’m an animated person, it takes a serious wine to make my feet leave the ground. One word: Sorella. Sold out at the winery, we found a bit more in the cellar. From Champoux Vineyard fruit, it's drinking wonderfully now, or cellar for up to ten years.

Andrew Will Sorella 04 $60.26/$66.95

Andrew Will Sorella 04The 2004 Andrew Will Sorella is extraordinary. When the Avalon team tasted this wine, words like sensual and seamless came from everyone. The aromas of black and red cherries were perfectly entwined with lovely sweet oak and smoke, pie spice, dark violets and with time, roasted coffee. Mouthfillingly plush and juicy flavors of black and red cherries and dark chocolate-covered blueberries. The tannins are structured but velvety and the acidity provides a lift through to the finish, which delicately caresses your mouth with a mélange of fruit, minerals, and spicy toast.

Take note Champoux Vineyard fans: the ’04 Sorella is 37% Block I Cabernet Sauvignon—over 30 year old vines!, 21% Merlot, 18% Blocks II and III Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot, all from the Champoux Vineyard.

Parker Wine Advocate 92 Points.
