“With the growth of the Oregon wine industry, we felt the time was right to bring a winery into the city,” said Bruce Biehl. “Wine lovers across the nation have appreciated the quality of Oregon wines for years. We’re bringing that quality closer to home and making it easier for people to experience the excitement of the winery operation within the Eugene city limits.” Long-time Eugenian Bruce Biehl and his Swiss-born wife Bettina have realized a long held dream by opening their own winery. Bruce is a respected vineyard manager, with hundres of acres of Oregon's vineyards under his management. His experience, and his access to excellent grapes, shows in the quality of his wines. The 2000 vintage produced exceptional wines for EWC, and the wines were very well received here at Avalon and across the country. Demand led Bruce to increase production, and the winery has increased its production to 4,500 cases for the 2001 vintage. The winery has recently added Pinot Blanc, a Reserve Pinot Gris, and utilizing fruit from Washington state, a Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. Expect to see the 2001 wines released across the summer and fall of 2003. The 2002 vintage, now in barrel, promises to be another winner. |
