Genesis Cabernet Sauvignon

Review:

This is what fine wines are all about. This is a spicy wine at its core with anise, clove and coffee bean accenting its bright fresh cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. It is a rich, full-bodied, expressive wine that still shows some finesse with fine, almost powdery tannins and well-integrated oak. Tobacco and black pepper linger on the finish. Pair this wine with grilled tri-tip steak, aged cheeses or dark chocolate. - the winery

Wine Spectator rating 89 points: "Ripe and generous, a bit scattered now but it has lots of intriguing elements, offering classic currant and black cherry flavor at the core, edged with tomato and herbs as the flavors persist. Needs time to settle in. Best from 2005 through 2010. 20,510 cases made." (HS)

From the winery: "The key to making great Cabernet Sauvignon is to ensure the crop load is balanced so that the grapes ripen evenly and develop concentrated flavors. The rich flavors in this wine come not only from the Cabernet Sauvignon itself, but also from the addition of other red varietals: 9% Merlot for elegance, 4% Syrah and Cabernet Franc for character. The resulting wine has cherry, cranberry and vanilla aromas and flavors integrated with toasty oak. A slight bell pepper note in the background adds complexity. The texture is soft and velvety, with nice oak, vanilla and clove note in the balanced tannic finish. Pair it with grilled bell peppers, BBQ beef, spicy pasta or a bittersweet chocolate dessert."
