Gift - Tour of Oregon
12 bottles
Winery: Avalon Wine
Two bottles each, from six different regions of Oregon's wine country. Oregon's Umpqua Valley, in the southern part of the state, is home to Abacela, one of the few US wineries growing and making Tempranillo. The South Willamette Valley's Territorial Vineyard grows its own Pinot gris grapes. Westrey's vineyard is in the North Willamette Valley. Patricia Green Cellars is in the exclusive Ribbon Ridge appellation. Dominio IV is on the Oregon side of the Columbia Gorge. Belle Vallee makes its Southern Oregon red from Rogue Valley grapes.

Abacela Termpranillo Umpqua 07 $20.45
Umpqua Valley
Delicate scents of candied cherries, cassis, candied red currant, and a distinct sense of rose petals mingle with toasty barrel spice in the nose. Flavors are of sweet black cherries, cassis, lots of toasty cocoa bean, and the wine finishes with a reiteration of the spicy barrel toast of the scent -- lovely spicy oak and black fruit.
Territorial Pinot gris 08 $14.95
Southern Willamette Valley
Seductive aromas of mineral, pear and apple open up to a mouth-filling mid-palate swimming with tropical fruit flavors and hints of spice. While full and viscous in the mouth, this wine is punctuated with a bright natural acidity which makes for a long clean finish.
Westrey Pinot noir Willamette valley 08 $21.95
North Willamette Valley
Morel cream, red fruit, forest scents open to a gorgeous, silky display of fresh black cherry and blackberry. There's a ribbon of sweet red berries mixing with cardamom and rosemary on the finish. Another outstanding value from Westrey.
Patricia Green Cellars "Dollar Bills Only" Pinot noir 08 $16.74
Ribbon Ridge
The Patty Green Dollar Bills Only 08 is definitely a crowd pleaser, but also a wine that a europhile palate wouldn't snub for the money.
The first hit on this wine is a sweet, toasty earthiness with some notes of morel mushrooms in the background. It opens up to loads of black berry and black cherry, with some floral notes hinting at cherry blossom, but also a lot of sweet orange and spice and a touch of cocoa powder.
The texture is creamy, and tastes of mixed berry pie filling and cinnamon sticks, again with that natural sweetness. The finish is long and reminds me of a raspberry/blackberry marmalade with a nice touch of thyme and oregano thrown in.
Overall this wine made me think of Christmas, with the orange, cinnamon, and pie filling flavors, and always that pinot sweetness. - Adrienne
Belle Vallee Southern Oregon Red 06 $13.95
Rogue Valley
Rich and velvety with incredibly deep cherry and blackberry fruit. Substantial concentration, turning spicy on the long finish. Not to heavy; smooth and appealing now. Will only get better with age
Dominio IV "Technicolor Bat" Tempranillo/Syrah 07 $19.85
Columbia Gorge
Wow- I've followed this winery for a few years as their new vineyard developed. With this wine, the maturity of the vineyard and the experience of the winemaker come together to produce a super wine and a great value.
The 2007 Technicolor Bat is big. It's a fleshy, full bodied red with black plum, cassis, dusty cocoa, anise, and smoked meat flavors. Have this wine with BIG meats. Amazing at $20.
