J Daan Syrah 06
winery: J Daan
Exceptional value. Sweet vanilla and coffee notes are layered throughout the nose and palate. Sweet cinnamon spice and black cherry have slight pie like quality that is appealing. Lush and slightly structured, it will age gracefully or drink well now with roasted meats or hearty vegetarian fare. Winemaker Justin VanZanten is the assistant to Andrew Rich.

J Daan is the winery of Justin Van Zanten, assistant winemaker to Andrew Rich since 2001. With a sweet and appealing nose of perfumed raspberry and violets, entwined with sweet toasty vanilla oak, this is a really nice everyday wine.
Flavors of black raspberry, red raspberry, red cherry, and a hint of nutmeg make for a juicy, yummy, easy drinking Pinot. The finish is simple but well made, and it's so easy to drink and enjoy. A promising effort, more than a bit reminiscent of an Andrew Rich wine.
Previous vinteage received 90 points from Wine Advocate: ...outstanding. Its deep core of red cherries is satin-textured, medium-bodied, and as sweet as can be imagined."
