Lange Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 08
Lange Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 08 - An assemblage of all the winery's North Willamette vineyard sites.
In our true “classique” style, this wine is approachable and fruit-forward upon release. It showcases a gregarious bouquet of huckleberry, dark rose petal, marjoram, and barrel spice, with appealing blueberry compote, mixed bramble fruit, candied cherry, and vanilla flavors. With an expansive and broad mid-palate of complex fruit and refined tannins, this wine owns the requisite structure to be lively and vivacious. Enjoy! - the winery
About the Vintage - A late and cool Springtime parlayed into a late and cool Summer. Solid bloom conditions created good set and potential crop, but our winemakers were aggressive in our stance toward yields, choosing to drop fruit in the vineyard multiple times to ensure balance. This proved to be a vital decision, as we didn’t begin picking the majority of our fruit until mid-October, while in most years we begin harvesting by the third week of September.
The key, as in any vintage, is to grow vines on the ideal vineyard slopes and farm those vineyards appropriately throughout the growing season. Once again, our experienced growers and our dedicated winery team made the necessary decisions to guarantee benchmark wines. As far as comparisons to the past, the 2008 wines have some elements of two previous stellar vintages: 1999 and 2005.
I hearken back to 1999 because of the beautiful conditions late into October, and 2005 because of the rich tannin density and panoply of flavors. These wines own classic Oregon expression and exhibit the kind of vintage that could only happen here. Although a nail-biter for farmers, all’s well that ends, well, better than well. -- Jesse Lange, Winemaker

2006 Vintage Tasting Notes
Winery tasting Notes: Our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is always approachable upon release and the 2006 is a very friendly wine that is sure to be appreciated by a broad audience. This juicy palate-pleaser is a wine that showcases a warm, dry vintage that demanded every ounce of energy from the Lange production staff. The nose entices with bright, red raspberry, candied cherries and a hint of allspice while the palate displays luscious red plum, red currant and berry characteristics complimented by an earthy note of minerality in the finish. An expansive mid-palate, lively acidity, and a succulent texture that is indicative of the 2006 vintage make this wine a well-rounded, exceptionally balanced and varietally correct representation of the grape for which the Willamette Valley is known. -- the winery
