L'Ecole #41 Semillon ice wine 2004 375 ml: REAL DEAL - L'Ecole makes a lovely late harvest semillon every year that sells out quickly. This time, the grapes froze on the vine, and the winery was able to make a real ice wine.

It's very limited, delicious dessert wine from a master of Semillon. This luscious sweet golden nectar shows intense floral aromas of orange blossom and honeysuckle, and enriches the mouth with a thick viscosity of ripe pear, pineapple, and butterscotch.

From the winemaker: "While we have produced a number of excellent Late Harvest Semillons from our Seven Hills Estate Vineyard, this is our first true Ice Wine, produced from grapes frozen on the vine by Mother Nature."

From the winery

Temperatures in early January had been hovering around 20 degrees F, but the forecast had been for an arctic dip that might plunge the temperature to 15 degrees or below. We held back for a couple of days, then harvested on the morning of January 14th, 2005 at 17 degree F. The grapes were whole-cluster pressed, resulting in sugar content of 40? Brix. The juice was fermented and aged 7 months in new French oak barrels.
