Matt's Reserve Pinot noir, from his own Vineyard. Special Selection is made from "richer, denser, and darker barrels:" - John Haeger, North American Pinot.
The 2008 Special Selection is dominated by black fruit flavors. There's a mouthwatering scent of fresh fruit and spice, and the wine has a lot of structure, softening and tasting best after decanting for a few hours.

If you've never heard of Washington-based McKinlay Vineyards, you're not alone: the winery makes less than 3,200 cases of wine each year, and they tend to sell out quickly. That's because quaffers like the moderately-priced Special Selection Pinot Noir embody the essence of an American Pinot Noir: deep, red fruit like cherries and berries, rich wintry spices, and a lot of structure without too much tannin. I'm fantasizing about serving my next bottle with a gamy roast goose. What wines are you serving with your holiday dinner? - Yumsugar
Previous Vintage Tasting Notes
Previous Vintage tasting notes Wine Spectator rating 91 points: "Lithe, harmonious and appealing for its floral blackberry and spice flavors, finishing with fine-grained tannins that meld beautifully. Drink now through 2013. 330 cases made." (HS)
Highly recommended- A dark, dense wine, one first notices the intensely perfumed nose, with black berry and cherry fruit scents mingled with a hint of oak. Flavors are of sweet red cherry, red raspberry, blackberry, and black currant, with a distinct nod to the tannic flavors that come from incorporating some whole cluster pressings into the mix. The wine is distinctly true to the varietal, offering a quite pure expression of Pinot noir at its best.
